Obituary of Merton Newman
NEWMAN, MERTON WILSON – September 17, 1939 – October 19, 2020. Born in Campobello, NB. He is the son of the late Newton & Eleen Newman. Passed away at the Church of St. John & St. Stephen Nursing Home in Saint John, New Brunswick.
For most of his life Merton worked as Tinsmith (HVAC) in Ontario and Alberta. He served in the Navy as a young man and loved being on the water. Merton was a large personality that could hold a room with his many stories and jokes. He loved to spend time with his family and was always helping a stranger in need. Merton will be dearly missed by all that loved him.
Merton is survived by four adult children; Teresa Schofield and husband Donald of Langley, BC, Susan Newman of Calgary, AB., Andrew Newman and wife Carma of Calgary, AB.,Thomas Newman and wife Natalya of Scarborough, ON, and three siblings; Sharon Tarrant of Milton, ON., Faye Rose of Campobello, NB.,and Allan Newman and wife Cindy of Boston, MA., U.S.A., several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Merton was predeceased by his older brother Cyril Newman.
There will be no visitation. Cremation will take place. Due to restrictions from the current pandemic a graveside service will take place at a later date (to be announced) in Wilson’s Beach Old Cemetery, Campobello, NB.
In lieu of flowers donations to the Wilson’s Beach Cemetery Fund, The Kidney Foundation of Canada or charity of the donors’ choice would be appreciated by the family. On line condolences to the family or donations can be made at www.humphreysfh.com
