I am so deeply saddened and shocked at the news of Cynthia's death. We met at the Royal College of Music in London when we were asked to play the Mozart Flute and Harp concerto together and became close friends. I spent much time with her and Charlie and was present at the birth of Clara. Her dedication to Charlie was steadfast and she never showed self pity. She was a very talented flautist and would have gone far but she gladly chose duty to her children over self promotion. I was sad to see her return to Canada but believe she felt she could do more for Charlie and the cause for autism there.
Cynthia's death has caused a large ripple of grief here in the UK from many college friends who remember her fondly.
Heartfelt condolences to all the family.
This photo was taken almost 30 years ago. I'm on the left and another dear friend, Judy Proctor on the right. I think it sums up all of Cynthia's strength and beauty.

Dear Lois, Sarah, Hollis, Rev. Martin, Clara, Gabrielle & associated families.
Please accept my sincere condolences for the loss of a truly wonderful woman, lovely soul and extraordinary life now passed.
I enjoyed so much of what Cynthia brought to this world with her charisma and strength through my time as her flute student.
I always remember Cynthia as such a strong, independent, while also glamorous, fashionable and worldly woman in how she presented herself and her many talents.
She is greatly missed.

I am sad to be writing these words of condolence to Cynthia's family. Like many, I haven't been ready to say good bye. I first met Cynthia when Charlie became a student at St. Stephen High School. During those years, I recognized Cynthia as a strong woman who willingly and tirelessly gave voice, not only to her own son, but also to others unable to speak for themselves. I was devastated for her when Charlie died. She loved her children passionately and took pride in their every accomplishment. I saw her infrequently until recently when we began meeting at various events and it became clear that Cynthia and I shared similar interests. One of the last times I spoke with her, I was excited to learn that she had found love in John and was pleased to congratulate them on their upcoming wedding. At that same time, she expressed her commitment to protecting the environment, something she felt should have been accomplished in the 70's. I recognized her as one who determinedly poured energy into any project she deemed worthy. Cynthia was a talented, intelligent, and focused person. She will be missed by those whose lives she touched and will be remembered for the many contributions she made as she worked to make the world a better and more fair place. My sincerest sympathies to her mother, Lois, her new husband, John, and her daughters, Clara and Gabrielle, whose names alone brought smiles to their mother's lips. As for me, I will remember Cynthia Bartlett fondly and with the greatest respect.

On behalf of Wesley United Church in St Andrews, I offer heartfelt condolences. We were deeply saddened to learn of her death, so unexpected and far too soon. She had so much more living to do and so much more to offer her loved ones and to our whole community . I know she connected with Wesley in her years in St Andrews, before my time , but many fondly remember her and her children ( as they were then), from those days . We enjoyed seeing her with Lois at special events in St Andrews in more recent years and I was happy that she was able to spend some time with one of our midweek groups. I cannot do justice to the many facets of Cynthia’s life or to all her amazing gifts and accomplishments. I remember her as a spiritual seeker , and as one with wide-ranging appreciation of creativity and Creation, with a passion for justice, for the well- being of those most vulnerable , and the well-being of our environment. May we be inspired to continue this appreciation and these passions as we honour her memory .! Today we remembered John and Lois and all her family in our prayers and will continue to hold you , her loved ones, in Love and Light in this very difficult time .

John, Clara, Gabrielle and Lois: I could not add much that hasn't already been said about Cynthia, but feel that it was a privilege to have known her. Intelligent, warm, determined, genuine, curious - these are but a few of the words that are fitting to begin any description of who Cynthia was as a person. Yes, these and much, much more. Time spent with her was always an experience that left me feeling that I had been in the company of a woman who mattered, whose multi layered self touched anyone who had the good fortune to spend time with her. Gone much, much too soon. But remembered - she will be remembered by so many for so many reasons. She made a difference, and in the end that is all any of us could wish for. John, Claa, Gabrielle, Lois: I know that you must be shattered. Please know that I am praying, not only for Cynthia, but for all of you, that you get through this difficult time.

Just so lost for words, such a shock. Remembering Cynthia when we worked together with the Charlotte County Benevolent society Inc. Her focus was on helping families dealing with autism. She went on to form her own project, The Dragonfly Center for Autism. She did so much for so many children and their families. She was a beautiful person to give up a wonderful career to dedicate her life to others especially her family. She will be missed by soooo many. And as I am sitting and typing this message about her work with the Dragonfly Centre a Dragonfly appears! My daughter just pointed it to me! Which is neat as she used to provide respite care to Charlie and take him to Coffee House once a week. So I just named him Charlie, Sending our deepest sympathies to her husband John, Clara and Gabrielle. It’s just so tragic!

John, Clara and Gabrielle, Andy and I are thinking of and praying for you. I cannot imagine the shock this must be, and the loss.
Clara and Gabrielle, your Mom was so proud of you. As she and I would pass each other, if one of you were up to something, she'd be sure to mention it, with her face lit up.
Cynthia and I had some wonderful conversations and during those she showed that immense strength and deep-going passion for those who could not speak for themselves, as the tribute to her mentions. Cynthia came to talk to one of my classes at St. Stephen's University about her experience as Charlie's Mom and advocate, and she shared with us some of the poems that she wrote expressing her love and care for Charlie.
I will never forget the cadence of her voice, her quick observant eyes, her smile: gentle and at the same time with grit. Surely her Creator is welcoming her as she is being gathered to her people, including the ones whose lives she advocated for while she was here.
May you experience her presence and the Creator's presence in surprising ways as you walk the road of her loss. Sincerely, Agnes and Andy Kramer

In April 2017 Cynthia visited London with Gabrielle and I organised a birthday dinner party for her with some of her old friends. It was the first time I had been in her presence for just under 20 years. I was lucky to spend so much time with her, Charlie and Clara 1987-1998. We first met as visiting instrumental teachers at Benenden School in Kent c 1987, sharing the train journey back to London we discovered we had much in common. She introduced me to the Iyengar Yoga Institute in Maida Vale which has been such a huge part of my life. During the ‘90’s we celebrated birthdays and festive days together and many weekends. She was In effect my London family. She let my sister stay with her when she was between flats for a few weeks. She was so generous, so strong, so gracious and also such fun to spend time with. I can’t believe that you have left us all so suddenly Cynthia. Especially considering dear John, with whom you just got married a few weeks ago. I am so grateful to have met you Cynthia Bartlett. You were a very, very special soul. I am now so grateful to have had that catchup Skype call earlier this month when you were telling me about your forthcoming marriage, and letting me know your latest news of Lois,Clara and Gabrielle. So much to look forward to. Bless you lovely lady. I will cherish the memories for which I Thankyou from the bottom of my heart. RIP. Judyxx

May the blessing of light be on you - light without and light within. May the blessed sunlight shine on you like a great peat fire, so that stranger and friend may come and warm himself at it. And may light shine out of the two eyes of you, like a candle set in the window of a house, bidding the wanderer come in out of the storm. And may the blessing of the rain be on you, may it beat upon your Spirit and wash it fair and clean, and leave there a shining pool where the blue of Heaven shines, and sometimes a star. And may the blessing of the earth be on you, soft under your feet as you pass along the roads, soft under you as you lie out on it, tired at the end of day; and may it rest easy over you when, at last, you lie out under it. May it rest so lightly over you that your soul may be out from under it quickly; up and off and on its way to God. And now may the Lord bless you, and bless you kindly. Amen.
