I am sorry to hear of Dave's passing. He was a fixture at the EMP meeting in Fredericton each Fall and you could count on a great conversation with him. He was a wealth of knowledge and always had great stories to share. There will be a hole in the exhibitor area now with his absence.

I am sorry to hear of Dave's passing. I worked as the geologist on site on one of Dave's properties while working for Rockport Mining. Dave was always interested in our work and provided useful information to help with our exploration. The mining industry needs more prospectors like Dave.

I am very sorry to hear of his passing, I knew him very briefly last summer but I will always remember his kindness. I worked at greens point and when I told him I also have an interest in minerals and crystals, he would come in and talk to me and my coworkers about all the minerals/ crystals in the area and where to find them. He even brought us some quartz clusters that I proudly have sitting with the rest of my collection. He was a very sweet man that will definitely be missed. Rest in peace Dave.

Sorry to hear of his passing… Dave was a kind and intelligent quiet spoken man. I had the pleasure to work with him for many years at The Saint Croix Courier… He was one of the most talented cartoonists in print and won many awards for his work. RIP Dave… keep prospecting in the great beyond!

Julian Walker, When I was editor of the Saint Croix Courier, Dave was famous, for his smile, is head band and, of course, his cartoons. I remember one cartoon in particular when JW Bud BIrd was minister of Natural Resources. Dave titled it, as I recall, "A bird in the Legislature is worth two in the Bush." Mr. Bird loved it and kept it on his wall. May you strike gold in the hereafter, Dave.

Another whimsical cartoon when I was editor of the St. Croix Courier was the Transportation Dept. pulling up one of the Deer Island ferries on the intertidal at Oven Head. He disapproved, and the cartoon was entitled "Caution. Lee shore." Referring of course to Sheldon Lee, the Minister.

I work at Sunbury Shores and he visited often. He would bring me newspapers on art and architecture and give me the latest on his prospects and his walks. Through him, I appreciate the richness and value of New Brunswick and the land. I will miss Dave very much. He was a man full of knowledge. I will always remember him.

Dave was the cartoonist at the Saint Croix Printing and Publishing Company when I was hired there between 1978 to 1980. He was a kind and humble person. Our paths crossed a few times over the years the most frequent was last summer when he visited a local restaurant for fried clams. I always enjoyed talking with him. He will be missed by many.

I love prospectors who make no excuses or apologies for looking like prospectors and Dave was proud to be seen as one. An excellent knowledge of geology and mineral exploration, Dave was an inspiration, fun to be with and a sharp guy who could jump into a discussion about anything. I'm proud to be able to say he was my friend. The prospecting industry and New Brunswick has suffered a loss, as well as those he touched, who were many. Dave's gone now. He's out prospecting.

Mentor, friend and conference buddy, I was shocked and saddened to hear of Dave’s passing on Friday. I send my condolences to all his family and friends. I’m very grateful to have had such a good friend. Dave and I first met at the New Brunswick mining conference back in 2008. Back then I was just a newbie and Dave took me under his wing. He quickly became my mentor and one of my best friends. I will miss our times together on the phone and at conferences. They will never be the same without you. Your absence will be felt and with a heavy heart I pray that you rest in peace my dear friend.

Words cannot say how awesome Dave was. I worked with him for a few months way back in his St. Croix Courier days. The years were 1979/80. Then I was very fortunate to meet up with Dave approximately 2015/16 and had the pleasure of his time helping me at The Calais Free Library entertaining youth with several weeks of studying ricks and minerals.
Throughout any of my interactions with Dave, I can say he was the most respectful, humble kind and knowledgeable human I have had the pleasure of knowing. R.I.P. Dave. Your passing is a great loss to the prospecting community and to anyone who knew you. ❤️

Was shocked and saddned to hear of Dave's passing. Over three decades I had the pleasure to go back and forth with Dave on a number of political topics and issues. It was obvious that Dave was well read. He had a no nonsense style to politics but at the same time he was fair and always willing to listen to alternative views. I will miss his quick wit and hearty laugh. Rest peacefully good friend.

Our paths crossed numerous times in the last ten years being both involved in the mining and exploration industry. Dave could be counted on for an intellectual political quip, a general conversation of sarcasm and wit, or an in depth conversation about a mineral property he was working on. An intelligent man with a great sense of humor and wit, and just an overall awesome human being. You will be missed by all whose lives you have touched. See you on the other side my friend.

Whether visiting, or working, with Dave over decades, I always enjoyed a happy and rewarding experience. As so many have noted, Dave's knowledge, enthusiasm, dedication, insight, sense of honour and fairness, and his perseverance are legendary. Mineral exploration of southern New Brunswick was maintained and advanced. over decades largely due to Dave's work. His is a remarkable legacy. I shall miss this wonderful man. My condolences to his family and to his many, many friends.

Without the local geological knowledge provided by Dave Stevens, my work on solving the mystery of the origin of the Titanic headstones would have been much more difficult, or impossible. Dave immediately and enthusiastically responded to my request to participate in the search, and for no reward other than to solve a scientific problem. Together we succeeded, and if he is to have a headstone, I hope it comes from the Hanson Quarry. I’m grateful to have known such a wonderful man.

I met Dave many years ago when his deep interest in rock and minerals and geology would lead him to attend many events related to these subjects. Dave was a very friendly chap, always smiling extremely knowledgeable and deeply interested in what people had to say. Besides local New Brunswick mineral events I would meet Dave on geology field trips and at major mineral industry conferences like the world renown PDAC - Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada Conference (Toronto) and the Cordilleran Roundup Conference (Vancouver) where Dave and several fellow New Brunswick prospectors would exhibit their rock and mineral samples in hopes of attracting a mineral exploration company to invest in their mineral claims.
The attached photo was taken in 2008 when Dave attended the PDAC conference. Dave relished these opportunities to communicate with industry geologists and they in turn would welcome seeing Dave again, often wearing his classic headband. Dave will be missed by his fellow prospectors and mineral industry personnel.

I first met Dave when he drove his old beat up truck into Charlotte County GM and decided on the shiny new one in the showroom, but first wanted all the "gizmos & gadgets unhooked" as he wasn't a fan of anything electronic or technical. Over the years since then, Dave and I had many lengthy chats, all of which I gained more knowledge on everything from local politics to minerals to local events. I will definitely miss Dave's visits!

I met Dave about 16 or 17 years ago and had been friends ever since. We both had a passion for mineral collecting and we tried to get together several times a year to go collecting in Charlotte County and in Maine. I always tried to stop in and visit him whenever I was down his way and was able to catch him home. I was glad to stop in just a couple weeks ago and that was when I learned the he had just gotten home from the hospital. Rest easy Dave, you will be missed.
