Obituary of Elizabeth Jean Graham

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Elizabeth Jean “Liz” Graham of St. Andrews, New Brunswick, at the age of 72, after a battle with cancer. Liz was born on April 26, 1939, in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, the oldest child of Margaret and Donald Grant. At the age of 7, Liz moved with her parents to Pictou, Nova Scotia, after her father’s return from World War II. In 1952, along with her parents, and sisters Judy and Pat, Liz moved to Wolfville, Nova Scotia, where she completed high school, worked at the Bank of Montreal, and met her future husband, Ralph David “Dave” Graham. Liz and Dave were married on May 12, 1962 in Wolfville and moved to St. Andrews, New Brunswick in August, 1969, along with sons Michael and Peter. Liz was a stay-at-home mother to her boys until they reached high school, then she re-entered the workforce as a secretary at Sir James Dunn Academy. Later, Liz became a legal assistant for G. Melvin Turner and David Walker at the firm of Nicholson, Turner, and Walker, from where she retired to enjoy her later years . In addition to a lifelong passion for yard sales and romance novels, Liz loved gardening, jigsaw puzzles, her ladies’ bridge group, and playing with her grandchildren. She is survived by her husband Ralph David “Dave” Graham of St. Andrews, NB, sister Judy Huston and brother in-law Frank Huston of Midland, Ontario, sister Pat Swansburg of St. Andrews, NB, sister in-law Linda Dickson and brother in-law Clayton Dickson of St. Andrews, NB, son Michael Graham of St. Andrews, NB, son Peter Graham, daughter in-law Caroline Graham, grandsons Andrew Graham and Alex Graham of Rothesay, NB, nieces Nancy Swansburg, Heather Huston, Cathy Huston, Lara Verstappen, Lindy Townsend, Sidney Boyle, and Rachel Brunson, nephews Clayton Dickson, Blair Dickson, and Andrew Townsend, as well as a large number of cousins. Liz was predeceased by her parents, Donald and Margaret Grant, as well as by infant son Thomas. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 21, 2011 at the Wesley United Church in St. Andrews, NB, at 3:00 pm, in order for us to celebrate Liz’s life and to thank everyone who provided comfort and assistance over the last few months. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a memorial contribution to the Charlotte County SPCA or the Charlotte County Cancer Society.
