Obituary of Wilford Murray Alexander

ALEXANDER, Wilford Murray – - 81 Welshpool, Campobello. Born on Campobello April 24, 1930 and passed way in Charlotte County Hospital on May 25,after a lengthy illness. He was the son of Wilford and Minnie (Cline) Alexander. Murray's father Wilford died of complications from wounds received in WW 1 when Murray was 13 years old, he was also predeceased by a brother Godfrey Alexander. He is survived by his sister Louisa Robertson of Kingston ,NS, niece Sharon Hatt and nephew Larry Robertson. Great grand nieces Angela, Lori, Natalie, Shanara, and great great grand nephew Kael. Also a special life long friend who shared many of his interests, cousin Beverly Corey. Murray was a gentle soul and had a great love of nature. He enjoyed his island home and all the beautiful scenery, floral and fauna. Creatures large and small interested him;at one time he had a little white goat for a pet. Murray graduated from Campobello Island Consolidated School and then took an Art Course in Saint John. He loved to travel and worked in may locations throughout Canada settling for 7 years on the west coast where he worked as a gardner at several estates.He enjoyed living in Vancouver, the scenery and the islands off the coast. He eventually returned to Campobello where pursued his interests. Murray captured much of the beauty around him in his paintings, which have been on display at the Campobello Library. His research into ancestry led him to be knowledgeable of the backgronds of many of the island families. A number of his stories about residents of the island can be found in several books written about the island. His “Memories of Campobello” is being edited for publication, and should soon be available at the library. He was an avid gardener, pictures of his gardens were featured in one of the books on the island. But his real love was the island itself. He never tired of the scenery that his walks took him to. He delighted in showing visitors around the island he knew so well. A Service in his memory will be held at Saint Anne’s Anglican Church, Welshpool, NB on Friday June 3rd. at 2:30 p.m. Donations in his memory may be made to Canadian Cancer Society, Saint Anne’s Church or charity of choice.
