Obituary of Jean Calder

CALDER, JEAN - The death of Jean Calder occurred on April 9th, 2011 at the Passamaquoddy Lodge, where she had been since May 2007. Jean was the daughter of the late George and Madge (Marjorie Welch) Calder. She was born in 1921 at Fairhaven Deer Island, was an only child and is survived by cousins and devoted friends. Jean lived and worked on Deer Island until the early fifties and then in Saint John and St Stephen as a nursing assistant in her middle years. From early childhood she was a fond devotee and protector of both wild and domesticated animals and birds. She spent many hours watching, from her bed, the song, the birds, the squirrels, pigeons, and crows that came to her feeder outside of her Lodge window. She supported the work of the Charlotte County SPCA with donations of all kinds. Memorial donations may be made to the SPCA or to the charity of choice. Jean possessed a mild disposition and he sweet and uncomplaining nature endeared her to the staff members of the Passamaquoddy Lodge who cared for her so well. There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held in the chapel of Humphreys Funeral Home, 20 Marks Street, St Stephen, NB (506 … 466 … 3110) on Tuesday May 10th, 2011 at 1:00 pm. The interment will follow in Oak Bay Rural Cemetery.
