Obituary of John Carrothers

CARROTHERS, JOHN - At the Saint John Regional Hospital, on Monday, April 26th, 2010, aged 88 years; Percival John Godber Carrothers of St. Andrews, NB, husband of Muriel Carrothers. Born in Edinburgh, Scotland he was the son of the late William Alexander and Agnes Elizabeth Carrothers. John worked as a research engineer with the Department of Fisheries and Oceans for many years, retiring in 1986. His almae matres included the University of British Columbia, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and the University of Toronto. An accomplished musician, John played trombone with the Vancouver Symphony, the world-renowned Kitsilano Boys Band, the CBC Orchestra, the New Brunswick Symphony, and the Saint Mary’s Band. Surviving, in addition to his wife Muriel, are his three sons, Scott of Calgary, AB, Andrew of Waterdown, ON and Graham (Rosalie) of Victoria, BC, grandchildren, Erin, Joel, Sarah and Tristan, brothers Brian (Sheila) of West Vancouver, BC, Gerry of Toronto, ON, sisters-in-law Jane Carrothers of Pender Island, BC and Wendy Jones of Victoria, BC and brother-in-law Dennis Jones of Midland, ON. John was predeceased by his brother Freddy and his daughter-in-law Wendy. By John’s request there will be no visitation. Friends are welcome to attend a celebration of his life on Friday, April 30th at 2:00 pm at the All Saints Anglican Church in St. Andrews with a reception at the Parish Hall immediately following. If desired, donations may be made to the Saint Mary’s Band Inc., 12 Brimley St., Saint John, NB E2L 3E8 or to the charity of your choice.
