Obituary of Robert Eliot Gallagher

Robert E. Gallagher Campobello Island and Moncton N.B. - Robert Eliot Gallagher, 59, passed away October 7th, 2008 at the George Dumont Hospital in Moncton, NB after a brief struggle with cancer, with his loved ones by his side. Eliot was born September 20, 1949 in Eastport, Maine, the son of Rose (Doucette) Gallagher and the late Bernard Gallagher. Eliot was raised on Campobello Island and attended school there. He left the island to serve in the US Army during the Vietnam War. Afterwards he traveled and lived in many places throughout Canada and the United States. He worked on various projects throughout his life including the Alaskan Pipeline and oil refineries in Saskatchewan. His favorite work and pastime was building cabinets and restoring antique furniture. Prior to his illness he was employed by a local furniture company. He enjoyed life and lived it to the fullest. Besides his mother of Moncton, NB, he is survived by his daughter Rebecca Gallagher of Glenburn Maine. and his sister Roseleta Smith and her partner Robert McArthur of Robbinston, Maine. He will also be lovingly remembered by his partner Alice Smith of Moncton .He was an uncle to Bonnie Devine and her son Tyler of Newport, Maine, and Travis Smith of Florida and his daughter Veronica Smith of Newport. He also had numerous aunts, uncles and cousins throughout U.S. and Canada. Eliot was predeceased by his father in 1985, his brother Greg in Aug. 2008, half sister Eva Chute in June 2008 and nephew Wade in Aug. 2006. A memorial service will be held at the Wilson’s Beach Pentecostal Church on Campobello Island, Saturday, October 18th, with time to be announced. The interment will be at Head Harbour Cemetery following the service.
