Obituary of Irene Matthews

MATTHEWS, IRENE - Unexpectedly at the Down East Community Hospital in Machias, Maine, on Friday, August 15th, 2008, Mary Irene (Blanchard) Matthews, wife of the late Clayton Raye Matthews Sr. of Wilson’s Beach, Campobello, NB. Born in Roxbury Massachusetts she is the daughter of the late Peter & Mabel (MacEachern) Blanchard. While living on Campobello Irene worked in the restaurant industry. For many years she also served as a paramedic with the St. John Ambulance Division of Campobello. Irene was also well known for giving personal home care to shut - ins on the island. Irene is survived by her six children, Lisa Beam (Gary), Paul Matthews, Peter Matthews (Beverly), Gail Robertson (James), Clayton R. Matthews Jr. (Jeannette) and Darlene Matthews (Edward), 12 grandchildren, Jason, Angie, Dylan, Jackie, Sean, Shawna, Amber, Dwayne, Allison, Jordan, Ashely and John, 3 sisters, Nancy Aucoin (Bill), Millie Aucoin all of Massachusetts, and Betty Armstrong of New Hampshire, cousins, nieces and nephews. Irene was predeceased by her brother George and husband Clayton. Cremation has taken place and friends are welcome to attend a time of visitation to be held at the Wilsons Beach Pentecostal Church, Campobello on Saturday, August 23rd, 2008 from A graveside service will immediately follow that visitation on Saturday scheduled for 2:00 pm at Head Harbour Cemetery, Wilson’s Beach, Campobello, NB.
