Obituary of Diana Rees
Diana died on November 19th, quietly at home, after a brave and spirited struggle with ALS. Born in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, she was educated at the University of Saskatchewan and the College of Librarianship at the University of Wales, Aberystwyth. After a career as a school librarian, she came to St Andrews in 1983 as owner and operator of the Sea Captain’s Loft. She was deeply interested in textiles and design, and after her retirement she completed a biography of Grace Helen Mowat, the founder of Charlotte County Cottage Craft. While in business Diana was an active member of the St Andrews Chamber of Commerce, and also served on the board of Charlotte County Hospice. She is survived by her mother, Mildred Collins, husband Ronald, son Matthew, daughter-in-law Karen, and grand-daughters Morgan and Erin. Throughout her illness, Diana received exemplary medical care and support from the dedicated staff of the Charlotte County Extra Mural Program. If desired, a memorial contribution to the Extra Mural Program Foundation, St Stephen Unit, or the ALS Society of Canada would be greatly appreciated. A memorial service will be held on Sunday,December 9th at 3:00 pm, at Wesley United Church, 77 Williams Street , St. Andrews, NB.Arrangements have been entrusted to the care and direction of Humphreys’ Funeral Home, 20 Marks Street,St. Stephen,NB (506-466-3110).
