Obituary of John Ashton Phinney

PHINNEY, JOHN A. At the Down East Community Hospital, Machias, Maine, U.S.A., on Monday , October 8th, 2007; John Ashton Phinney, husband of Sandra (Eyre) Phinney of Campobello, NB. Born in Lubec, Maine,he is the son of the late John Ashton & Lenora Grace (Townsand) Phinney. John was veteran serving with the US Military Armed Forces as an MP between 1961 … 1964, serving in Utah and in Germany.He met his wife Sandra in Utah, married and had their first child in 1962, second child in 1967 and third child in 1968. In 1969 John entered into St. Andrews Trade School finishing second in his welding course. Took his wife and children to Utah in the early 1970’s. Those who knew Johnny always saw him in a pair of cowboy boots and hat. He loved the West and was well known and loved from east to west.Johnny had many talents as a welder, siener, truck driver, fish buyer, volunteer Ambulance Attendant with which he received the Lieutenant Governors Award for Bravery. He was a Commander of the US Legion. He owned and operated 2 businesses while residing on Campobello. Johnny was always willing to help anyone who needed it, thought of as being friendly and a smart man who could always get things done. He was never at a loss if anybody needed him. Johnny was noted as being the first in Canada to get the Deep Brain Stimulators, a pioneer of sorts, paving the path for all those with Parkinsons; a disease he suffered with for many years, never willing to give up on his giving of himself. He had three children he was so proud of; always there for them, always worrying. A wonderful grampi who looked forward to their visits and hugs. A grampi who never found fault, loving unconditionally. All of his six girls, all different sizes made him a very happy grampi, filling his heart with much joy. John was sick a very long time but was where he wanted to be, at home with his loved ones. Surviving in addition to his wife Sandra of 45 years, a sister Nellie Matthews (Winston) , daughter Sandy Kay, son John & Niki, daughter Candi & Greg, 6 granddaughters, Lacee Edwina, Dakota Joy, Chelsea Grace, Rylee Elizabeth, Baylee Kay and Sydney Nicole, two nephews, Leroy and Barry, many Utah relatives and many special people in his life. Resting at Wilsons Beach United Baptist Church on Friday, October 12th, 2007 from where a brief tribute will be held at 1:00 pm with interment following in the Head Harbour Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church for a time of visitation on Friday from 11:00 am until 12:00 noon Donations to the Head Harbour Cemetery Fund or Parkinsons Foundation or charity of the donors’ choice would be appreciated by the family.
