Obituary of Gerald Mowatt Mitchell
MITCHELL, GERALD M. …At the Charlotte County Hospital on Sunday, August 26th, 2007, Gerald Mowatt Mitchell, husband of the late Helen Jane (McCoomb) Mitchell of Welshpool, Campobello, NB. Born in St. Andrews, NB he is the son of the late Cleveland and Anna (Tyni) Mitchell. A veteran of World War 2 Gerald enlisted in Montreal in 1943 and served with the Canadian Armed Forces as a trooper with the 17th Duke of York Royal Canadian Hussars.Gerald returned to the family home on Campobello Island in 1981. In the subsequent years he remained a vibrant and active member of many local service organizations, as well as a member of St. Anne’s. Gerald is survived by 2 sons Ian S. (Michelle) of Chicago, Illinois, and David W. (Theresa) of Toronto, Ontario, 2 grandchildren Kyle and Stephen, cousins, nieces and nephews.Gerald was predeaceased by wife Jane and one brother Woodrow. Resting at St. Anne’s Anglican Church, Campobello, NB from where the visitation will be held on Saturday, September 1st, 2007 from 10:00 am until 12:00 noon. The funeral service will be held in the church that afternoon at 2:00 pm, followed by a brief light reception. A Tribute to a Veteran will also be conducted during that service. Cremation will take place followed by an interment of ashes in St. Stephen Rural Cemetery at a later date. Donations may be made to the NB Lung Association.
