Obituary of Dorothy Maxine Lord

Lord, Dorothy Maxine Surrounded by loving family, Dorothy (Dorie) Lord, 76, passed away at Passamaquoddy Lodge, in St. Andrews, New Brunswick on January 14, 2007. Dorie Lord was born on November 18, 1930 at the Chipman Hospital in St. Stephen and was the daughter of Harold "Ted" and Josephine "Jo" Johnston of St. Andrews. She had one brother, the late Leslie Johnston. Dorie is survived by her devoted and loving husband of 54 years, Joe and her children, Joe Lord (Jennifer), Kentville; Carolyn Lord - d’Eon (Leo Paul), Yarmouth; Robert Lord (Kelly), St. Andrews; John Lord (Tracey), Ottawa; Sharon (Lord) MacLean (Garnet), Truro; Christopher Lord (Beth), Fredericton, her fourteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Dorie graduated from Charlotte County Grammar School in 1947 and was first employed as a telephone operator with NBTel in St. Andrews. She raised six children in the four Atlantic provinces, becoming involved in many activities wherever they lived. Their stops included Chipman NB, Windsor NS, Catalina NL, Hillsborough NB, North Head Grand Manan, and O'Leary PEI. She considered her children, who were the focus and pride of her life, as her major accomplishment. Dorie was a faithful member of the United Church of Canada. Her contributions to her church were as a member of the choir, member of UCW and Sunday school teacher. Her other interests included bridge, curling, skating, walking and volunteering her time to Meals on Wheels and as a leader in Scouts and Girl Guides. Dorie was an avid reader, loved to draw, was a marvelous cook and always had plenty of energy for her fourteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Resting at the Wesley United Church, St. Andrews with visiting on Tuesday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. The funeral service will be held 2 pm Wednesday, January 17, 2007 from the Wesley United Church in St. Andrews with Rev. Robert Johnson officiating. Interment will take place in the St. Andrews Rural Cemetery in the spring. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Passamaquoddy Lodge, Alzheimer’s Society or the charity of your choice. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to MacDonald Select Community Funeral Home (466-3110), 20 Marks Street, St. Stephen, NB.
