Obituary of Madelyn Irwin
Madelyn MacLean Irwin ( Meating ) It is with great sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Madelyn Irwin (nee Meating), who was residing at the Passamaquoddy Lodge, after a short lived series of age related illnesses, at the grand age of 91 years. Born in St. George, New Brunswick, she moved to her beloved St. Andrews in 1950, fell in love, married , had two children, worked and lived her whole adult life as a proud member of, and ambassador for, this community. Madelyn retired in 1989 after a 33 year career at the St. Andrews Biological Station with Fisheries & Oceans Canada. Madelyn was an avid golfer, a lover of Duplicate Bridge and crossword puzzles. She enjoyed walking, the beach, gardening and being outdoors. In younger years she liked cross country skiing the woods behind her house to the St. Andrews golf course. Madelyn was the wife of the late Henry Irwin, daughter of Nicholas Meating (deceased) of St. George and Ella Meating, nee MacLean (deceased) of Letite. Madelyn was pre- deceased by her older sister Doris Reid (nee Meating) of Huntington Beach, California and lately of Denver, Colorado. She is survived by her loving son Jeffrey Irwin & his wife Kim of Fredericton, her step grandson Joseph Crossland and his wife Alicia, her two step great grand-daughters Londyn and Berkley all of Halifax, as well as her step granddaughter Leigh Crossland of Fredericton. Survived also by her loving and devoted daughter, Jane Irwin of St. Andrews, her neice Peggy Hauser (Reid) of Denver Colorado two grandnieces and two great-grand nieces also in Colorado. At this age, her circle of friends has declined but her friend Margaret MacNichol has been a great pal over the years and we’d like to thank her for her friendship. As well she is survived by her close friend and second daughter, Wendy Henderson and her husband Michael of St. Andrews. Wendy is the daughter of Carine D. “Billie” Burnett, our mothers’ closest and best life-long friend, who has just recently passed away also. Together again on the golf course! Visitation will take place at the All Saints Anglican Church on King Street in St. Andrews on Sunday evening, December 18, from 6:PM to 9:PM and the Funeral Service will be held Monday, December 19 at 11:00 AM at All Saints as well. Archdeacon John Matheson will preside. In lieu of flowers donations to one of the following would be appreciated; the Passamaquoddy Lodge, Charlotte County Hospital and or The Charlotte County Cancer Society.
