Obituary of Grietje Anna Williamson
The death of Grietje Anna (Kitty) Williamson, daughter of the late Gerrit and Grietje (Reker) Bootsma, occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Wednesday, June 18, 2003 at the age of 77 after a short illness. She is survived by her son-in-law, Jeffrey Gagner (Patricia) of Woodland, Maine; grandsons, Jeffrey Jacob of Woodland and John Andrew of Portland, Maine; great granddaughter, Antonia Mary Catherine; nephews, John L. Williamson of Fredericton, Allan Williamson of Toronto; nieces, Margaret Stonner of North Chatham, New York, Judith MacDonald of Toronto, Joyce Reinhart of Fredericton, and an extended family of cousins in Michigan, Ontario and overseas. In Holland she is survived by her sisters, Frieda Meijer (Aldrik), Alia DeJonge (Henk), Roelie Greven (Jan), Diene Hamhuis (Henk), Froukina Rutgers and nieces and nephews. Mrs. Williamson was predeceased by her husband Walter, daughter, Mary and brother Jacob Bootsma. Kitty Williamson was born June 16, 1926 at Eelde, Drente, in the Netherlands. She married Corporal J. Walter Williamson of the Princess Louise's 8th New Brunswick Hussars in Eelde on November 23, 1945 and arrived in Halifax aboard the liner Queen Mary on August 31, 1946. Kitty was a housewife, attended Wesley United Church and was a former member of the Heather Curling Club and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion. In recent years she was a keen bridge player and leaves a circle of friends in the Charlotte County area. In her early years in St. Andrews, Kitty will be remembered for wearing klompen, the traditional Dutch wooden shoes, around her yard on Cherry Hill and also at hockey games in the old arena with thick wool socks! No visiting by request. A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, June 21, at the Wesley United Church in St. Andrews, the Rev. William MacLeod officiating, followed by reception in the church hall. For those who wish donations to a charity of the donors choice would be appreciated.
