Obituary of Bernadine Girard
Girard, Bernadine … The death of Bernadine Hilda Girard of Pennfield, NB occurred on Tuesday, February 28, 2012 at Bobby’s Hope House, Hospice Saint John surrounded by her family. Born in Beaver Harbour, NB on April 7, 1927 she was a daughter of the late William and Burla (Wright) MacVicar. After forty years in Real Estate in Calgary, managing the Co-op Trust Real Estate Office and working as a lab-technician for a private blood service Bernadine who had originally been from Milltown came back to her beloved Charlotte County for the past eight years. In Calgary she would provide Stampede Breakfasts, was a member of the Pythian Sisters, serving as Grand Chief of the Prairie Provinces, as a member of the Order of the Eastern Star she served as Worthy Matron and was also a member of the Daughters of the Nile. During the 1960’s she served with the Girl Guides of Canada and volunteered with the Milltown Recreational Council and was instrumental in bringing dances for teens and also helped to make possible the outdoor skating rink at Elm Park. Survived by her three daughters, Suzanne Hooper (Ronald) of Pennfield, Marie Deveau (Norman) of Black’s Harbour and Carol-Anne Clegg (Steve) of Burford, ON; special friend, Nancy Gay of Pennfield; special cousin, Burla Magowan; seven grandchildren: Danielle Stewart of Grand Prairie, AB, Denise Boyle of St. Andrews, NB, Norma Stieh (Richard) of Black’s Harbour, Lena Giorgiou of Athens, Greece, Sandra Bennen of Windsor, ON, Wendy Braithwaite (Shawn) of Ottawa, ON and Colin Purser (Jenn) of Tilsonburg, ON; twelve great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Predeceased by two grandchildren, Jordan Richard Stewart and William Edward Deveau. Resting at Humphreys’ Funeral Home, 20 Marks St., St. Stephen, NB E3L 2B2 (506) 466-3110 with visiting on Friday, March 2, 2012 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Funeral Service will be held from Humphreys’ Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, March 3, 2012 at 1:00 pm. Interment will be in Pennfield Rural Cemetery in the spring.
