DEMPSEY GERALD, “Jerry”, passed away at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Wednesday, January 29th, 2020, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. He was the son of the late Joseph Guitard and Marion Dempsey. Jerry leaves behind his partner of twenty-six years, Brenda Garrish, and his daughters Jennifer and Vanessa Crossley of Ontario, and their children Chloe and Eli. Left behind are also his brothers; Holten, Phillip, and Alistair, his sisters Velda Hodgeman, Pauline Dempsey, Delina Dempsey, Frances Hickman, Wendy Graham and Jeannie Terranova. He is predeceased by sisters; Bernadine Furlotte and Donnadeen Dempsey. Jerry maintained a very special bond with his many nieces and nephews. Jerry was born in Montreal and lived in Ontario for many years prior to making his home here in St Stephen. He was well known for his musical ability and travelled all over the county performing at small bars, family and friends’ gatherings, and at various Blue Grass Festivals. He worked at the Bayside Port as a Stevedore, was a grounds keeper on Ministers Island, but perhaps was most well known for the various stores he opened in St. Stephen selling antiques/used goods. At Jerry’s request there will be no viewing. A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, February 8th, 2020 at Humphreys Funeral Home, 20 Marks Street, St. Stephen, NB E3L 2B2 (506 – 466 – 3110). The formal tribute to Jerry will start at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Charlotte County SPCA or the Charlotte County Cancer Society.
