Obituary of Diane E. McGowan

The family of Diane E. McGowan (Humphreys) of Grand Bay-Westfield are heartbroken to announce her passing which occurred unexpectedly at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Sunday, December 16th. Diane will be truly missed by her loving husband Rick of 33 years, daughter Karen (fiancé Jon MacDonald), granddaughter McKinley and son Matthew (wife Juliette Cormier). She is survived by; her mother Helen Humphreys and two brothers David (Barb) Humphreys (niece Abbey) and Blair (Gwen) Humphreys as well as several cousins and one aunt. Also bearing heavy hearts are her extended family; mother in law Blanche McGowan, brother Paul (Roxanne) McGowan (niece Kali and nephew Jared) and sister Nancy (Dave) English. She was predeceased by her father, Rev. John Humphreys, brother Barry and father-in-law, Victor McGowan. Diane was a graduate of Millidgeville North High School and was known to be a hard worker early on in her career. She was employed at various places before putting in 20 years at Centracare Hospital in Staff education, where she met her husband Ricky, and then 16 more years at the Saint John Regional Hospital as the Conference Coordinator. Diane retired in 2016 after 36 years. While she loved working, she enjoyed volunteering even more so. Shortly after moving to Westfield in 1985, Diane joined the Westfield Volunteer Ambulance and this led to 21 years of volunteer service in various roles including Primary Care Paramedic, dispatcher, and Administrator. She loved all aspects of emergency services. In addition to her volunteering, Diane was elected to the Municipal Council of Grand Bay-Westfield and served 4 consecutive terms with one and a half terms as Deputy Mayor and the rest as Councillor. She was very passionate about helping others in her community. In her spare time, she continued to work hard in her garden where her and Rick would spend most of their time making their house a home. They loved travelling together and vacationing places that were warm and sunny. Diane was a loving and caring wife and mother and was devoted to her husband and children. She especially loved spending time with her granddaughter. Diane will be forever loved and missed by family and friends but never forgotten. At Dianes request, there will be no funeral service. There will be a time of visitation and celebration of her life to take place at Brenans Bay View Funeral Home,1461 Manawagonish Road West Saint JohnNB (1-506-634-7425) from 2-4 and 6-8 pm on Friday December 21st,2018. In lieu of flowers donations to the NB Heart & Stroke Foundation or to the NB Lung Association would be appreciated by the family.
