Mabel Ketcham

Obituary of Mabel Ketcham

Today we say good-bye to Mabel Dunham Ketcham, our dear daughter, mother, grand-mother, sister, aunt, friend, business woman and neighbour. She was such a big presence in all our lives and she will be missed. Mabel pushed through so much adversity in her 69 years, but none as tough as the past two years. She showed us how to accept all the pain and hardship life can afford, push through it to the very end, and not let one second go to waste in self pity or what ifs. Born in Detroit, Michigan to Frances and Francis Ketcham on September 7, 1949; Mabel made Saint Andrews, Canada her home in 1997. She is survived by her loving mother Frankie Remer, daughter Cammie Phalan (Cary Tozier) of Swan's Island, ME and son Mac Phalan of Deleware, grandchildren Keely and Finn McConomy of Bar Harbour, ME and Lexi Tozier of Swan's Island, ME, sisters Christine and Helenor Ketcham of Delaware and Elizabeth Kipp of Kansas, brother John (Jay) Remer Jr. of Saint Andrews, several nieces and nephews, and special animal companion Gift. She was pre-deceased by her father Francis Ketcham and step-father John Remer. Mabel, known to many as Dee, was not only a business woman, but a teacher, chef, and artist extraordinaire. Many of us are blessed to possess one of her beautiful pieces of art. A woman with a big heart, Mabel was extremely involved in her community; organizing and hosting fundraising events, catering everything from weddings to art exhibits, and giving when sometimes there was little left to give. She lived a full life, giving every moment and every person her all. Mabel, rest knowing you have lived life to the fullest and you are loved. The family will be hosting a celebration of Mabel's life on Saturday, October 27, from 3-5pm at 255 Water Street, upstairs in the former Masonic Hall. Donations can be made to Charlotte County Cancer Society Inc. at www.charlottecountycancer.com 45 Queen Street E, St. Stephen, NB, E3L 2J5 , or to a charity of the donor's choice.
