Obituary of Margaret Estabrooks
Estabrooks, Margaret Ellen (1928-2018) Peacefully, with her daughter by her side, Margaret Ellen (Essensa) Estabrooks passed away at Lincourt Manor, St. Stephen, NB on April 11, 2018. Loving and devoted wife for 61 years to her late husband Ronald, Margaret leaves to mourn her daughter, Brenda Wentzell, St. Stephen, NB., sons Ron Jr. (Charlotte) Charlottetown, PE; Greg (Suzanne) Bedford, NS and Kevin (Elizabeth), Hammonds Plains, N.S. Adored grandmother of Katherine Wentzell, Edmonton, AB; Deanna (Nathan) Yeo, Cornwall, PE; Andrew (Alexandra) Estabrooks, Hammonds Plains, N.S., Laura Estabrooks, Kentville, N.S and Brett Estabrooks, Halifax, NS. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Margaret was predeceased by sisters Elizabeth (Sam) Edwards and Mabel (Charles) Williams; brothers George, Lloyd and Walter (Mary); son-in-law Corey Wentzell (2014) and, grandson Craig Wentzell (2016). Born September 2, 1928 at the family farm on the Bay Road, St. Stephen, N.B. to Annie Winnifred (Burrell) Essensa and James Hazen Essensa. Margaret was a graduate of St. Stephen High School and Provincial Normal School. Her teaching career included positions at several schools in the province including her alma mater. Margaret was dedicated to her church, Kirk McColl United, and her community. This was evident in her continued involvement and service to various causes within the church and several organizations in St. Stephen. She was a long-time member of the Chocolate Fest Committee and a dedicated member of the Charlotte County Gardeners. Other involvement included Communities In Bloom and the N.B. Retired Teachers Association. She was a life member of the IODE- St. Croix Chapter and Atlantic Charter Chapter. Margaret was also active in the Charlotte County Hospital Auxiliary. With her husband Ron, Margaret shared a passion for gardening and landscaping. The Estabrooks' gardens were popular venues for photo-taking and weddings. Ron and Margaret were avid sports fans and were heavily involved with their children's’ athletic pursuits. Margaret’s legacy of faith and family will endure. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday, April 13th from 7-9pm. Memorial Service will be held Saturday, April 14th, 2018 at 2:00 p.m.at the Kirk McColl United Church with The Rev. Bob Johnson officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in Margaret’s memory to the IWK Grace Hospital, Halifax, NS, Charlotte County Hospital Auxiliary, Lincourt Manor Inc. or charity of one's choice are greatly appreciated.
