Obituary of Lloyd E. MacFarland
MacFARLAND LLOYD E. – It is with saddened hearts the family announce the unexpected passing of Lloyd Edward MacFarland at his home on Grand Manan, NB. Born on Grand Manan, he is late son of Wellington Alden MacFarland and Rhoda Miriah MacFarland (Handspiker)
Lloyd did many things in his lifetime while raising a family. One of his first career choices was cook on the Grand Manan Ferry. Lloyd then owned and operated his own restaurant renamed The Sea Shell. He also owned his own store at the same time as the takeout.
In a desire to help his community he went on to train and become an EMT Paramedic for the island and serving as a volunteer firefighter. When Lloyd retired he went to work at the Independent Grocer. Lloyd so loved the social interaction that came with working with the public. He found time to devote to the Grand Manan Boys & Girls Club and thoroughly enjoyed calling bingo for them. He was a longtime member of the Grand Manan Chamber of Commerce. Lloyd also did maintenance work for the Grand Manan Hospital. Lloyd had a special place and love for animals in his heart; especially dogs.
Lloyd is survived by his daughter Kathy Sears ( Tim) of Grand Manan, NB, 2 sons Greg of Grand Manan, NB and Derik Raymond of Saint John, NB, 11 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
Lloyd was predeceased by 1 brother Wellington Clyde MacFarland.
