Obituary of Richard Eastman Foster
Richard “Dick” Eastman Foster,
86 years old of Grand Manan, NB passed away peacefully on Saturday January 4, 2025 at the Grand Manan Hospital with his family by his side. Born on September 13, 1938 on Grand Manan, NB, he was the son of the late Gordon and Beatrice (Joy) Foster.
Richard is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years Claire (Riopelle) Foster of Ottawa, ON; his three children Fredrick “Rick” (Therese) Foster of New Albany, NS, Elaine (Ward) Guptill, and Glenn (Victoria) Foster; grandchildren Manon (Jim) Mahar of NS, Dawn (Gerald) Foster of Greenwood, NS, Monique (Richard) Martin of QC, Richard Foster of Halifax, NS, Carl (Tatum) Frost, Katelynn (Rubyn) Russell, Jerrica Foster, and Gayla Guptill, many great grandchildren, one brother Gordon “Tom” (Gladys) Foster of Bonnyville, AB; and many loved nieces and nephews.
Richard grew up on Grand Manan Island, he worked as a fisherman most of his life, joining the military in 1957 for 7 years serving France and Newfoundland before coming home to Grand Manan with his loving wife Claire. In his later life Grampy spent time driving taxi for his grandchildren and great grandchildren, peeling apples and the occasional kiwi, watching the girls play basketball on channel 10 and reading “The three little pigs” to his little doll Lia.
Richard is predeceased by his siblings, Kathleen “Kay” Deveau, William “Bill” Foster, Jean Weldon Ingersoll, Mary Foster and three infant brothers.
A kind and gentle man, a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will be greatly missed by those who knew him.

A time of fellowship and light refreshments to celebrate Richard’s life will be held at St. Paul’s Anglian Church (3 Ingalls Head Rd, Grand Manan, NB E5G 3G2) on Friday January 10, 2025 from 1-3PM.
For those who wish donations to the Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation, The Grand Manan Hospital Foundation or a chairity of ones choice would be appreciated by the family.
