Obituary of Carol Ann Calcinari

Carol Ann Fitzgerald (Calcinari), a kind and beautiful soul who cherished family above all else, passed away peacefully on December 3, 2024, on Campobello surrounded by loved ones. Born on October 2, 1945, in Eastport, Maine, (after a trip by boat from Campobello) to the late Philip and Lillian (Mitchell) Fitzgerald, Carol's life was a tapestry woven with threads of love, laughter, and unwavering dedication.

Carol's heart belonged to two special places: Her family home on Campobello Island, NB Canada and Meriden, Connecticut, where she and her family settled in 1955. She thrived in both environments, creating lasting memories with her husband John, daughters Traci (Herve Kimball) and Angela (David Dean), and granddaughters Lillie and Ava Dean.

She also leaves behind Sisters, Andria and Cheryl Fitzgerald (James Rinaldi). Predeceased as well by her brother Gordon (Phil). Carol also leaves behind many Nieces and Nephews, Philip Newman (Kinny), Jeremy Newman (Mary), Daniel Perez (Megan), Desiree Diogostine (Joseph) as well as her sister-in-law Marie Kobus. She also had many grand nieces, nephews and cousins. She was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend and will be missed by so many.

While family was her cornerstone, Carol's passions extended far and wide.  She possessed a keen eye for fashion, a love for nurturing gardens, and a mind that loved books and magazines. Animals held a special place in her heart, and her attentive nature made her a confidante and source of wise counsel for all who knew her.

For over 30 years, Carol's dedication and hard work shone brightly at Fosdick Corporation in Meriden. She rose through the ranks, a testament to her unwavering commitment.

Retirement brought Carol back to the shores of Campobello with her husband John. There, she reveled in the sight of whales in Pollock Cove, tended to the family home on Wilsons Beach, spent time with family on the island and, with a touch of humor, avoided all things boat related.

For years, a poem taped to our Campobello fridge, attributed to Eleanor Roosevelt, captured a sentiment we now cherish.

Today is a gift
I read in my book, And it's very true
If we take time to look.
The beautiful sunsets
The sparkling sea
Are gifts that were sent For you and for me.
The rain and the sun, The buds on the trees, The wind on our face Like a cool ocean breeze.
A good man once told me
Just live for today, For tomorrow our gift Could be taken away.

A celebration of Carol's life will be held on Campobello Island this summer, following interment and service at Wilson's Beach Community Cemetery.

The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to the exceptional staff at Campobello Lodge, for over seven years, they welcomed Carol home and provided both her and her family, (especially John) with exceptional care. We also express our sincere gratitude to the Campobello and Lubec family and friends for their unwavering support and care of our father as he has dedicated himself to the care of our mother.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Residents Council Fund of Campobello Lodge (PO Box 257, Lubec, Maine 06452) would be a cherished tribute to Carol's memory.
