Obituary of BB Chamberlain

Chamberlain, Harry Wayne “BB”

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Harry (BB) Wayne Chamberlain, who left us on November 20, 2024, at Charlotte County Hospital in St. Stephen, New Brunswick.

Born in 1944 in Back Bay, N.B., BB lived a life defined by a deep love for his family, community, and the sea.

BB began his journey in service to his country when he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1964. As a Military Police officer stationed at 4 Wing Baden-Söllingen, Germany, he embraced his role with dedication.

Beyond his military duties, BB’s passions for hockey and music shone brightly. A skilled defenseman, he played on the military hockey team, earning a reputation as a force to be reckoned with, even facing off against the Czech National Hockey Team—a match he often recounted with pride.

He also served as a radio DJ for the base, sharing his love of music and bringing joy to those around him.

After his honorable discharge—his last posting in Summerside, P.E.I.—BB returned to his roots and embarked on a varied and meaningful career. From working on the family estate, Clibrig, to purchasing manager at the historic Algonquin Hotel, as a carpenter for local outfits, and as the wharfinger of St. Andrews, BB left a lasting legacy wherever he went.

The water was BB’s sanctuary, and it seemed salt water truly ran through his veins. His brightest smiles were found on the water, especially aboard his beloved boat during trips to Frye’s Island. BB’s connection to the sea was as natural and enduring as the tides themselves.

BB was married twice, first to Joan Smith in 1965, with whom he had two daughters, Aralee Coombes and Michelle Chamberlain, and a son, Troy, who passed away at childbirth.

In 1977, BB married Sharon Graham (nee Chandler), with whom he shared many years together.

A pillar of the St. Andrews community, BB was known for his generosity, energy, and warmth. Whether coaching hockey, bowling, golfing, or playing hockey well into his later years, BB embraced life.

He was the kind of person who would give the shirt off his back, and his legacy is one of compassion and selflessness.

BB is survived by his beloved daughters, Aralee Coombes and Michelle Chamberlain; wife, Sharon (nee Chandler); eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; son in spirit Adam Tanner; and his faithful dog, Molly Mae, who was his constant companion.

He is predeceased by his siblings, Betty (Walton) Hoyt and Blaine Chamberlain.

His memory lives on in the hearts of his family and the many friends who cherished him. As one might say, “No one really dies who was loved so much.” BB’s impact and his love for his family and community will be felt for generations. His memory will live on in the hearts of his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and friends, in the stories they tell, and in the lessons of wisdom and resilience he imparted. Though we feel the ache of his absence, we are profoundly grateful for the time we had with him. How lucky we were to share life with someone like BB.

Per BB’s wishes, there will not be a formal funeral service. Instead, the family will hold a private gathering in the coming months to celebrate his extraordinary life.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Diabetes Association or the SPCA, organizations close to BB’s heart.

BB will be remembered as a man of boundless generosity, humor, and strength—a true friend to many. His spirit lives on in the wisdom he shared, the memories he created, and the lives he touched.
