Obituary of Muriel "Arlene" Gillan
It is with heavy hearts, the family of Arlene Muriel Gillan (Cheyne Hooper) announces her passing, which occurred at Lincourt Manor St. Stephen, NB on Friday Oct. 18th, 2024. Arlene was born in Back Bay on Dec 8th, 1940; daughter of Mabery and Marion Hooper.
Survived by her 6 children; Christopher (Julie) Cheyne, Richard Cheyne, Debra Cheyne, Kimberly (Peter) Bosanquet, Jacqueline (Greg) Nordstrom, and Robert (Linda) Cheyne, step-son James Gillan, grandchildren; Phillip, Ian, Sarelle, Keith, Blayne, Benjamin, Kayla, Gregory, Hailey, Lindsey, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews and her sister Charlotte (Jim) Newton and brother Michael (Lynn) Wall.
Along with her husbands Arthur Gillan and George Cheyne, Arlene is predeceased by her parents and sisters: Beatrice, Sandra, and Katherine, and her brothers Carroll, Murray, Frederick, Richard and David.
Arlene had a hard childhood, growing up in Back Bay, NB. She survived hardship and poverty which she overcame and thrived in adulthood. Arlene met George in Saint John, NB whom she married after a short courtship, together they had 6 children, living between Ontario and NB, spending many winters in Florida. Late in life she married Arthur Gillan, and cared for his son Jimmy until her stroke and later passing. Arlene had a huge heart and she helped many people throughout her life, appreciating where she came from and how far she came. She enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, arts and crafts, home renovations and travel. She loved her family dearly and will be missed by all of those who loved her.
The family thanks Lincourt Manor staff for the care of "Mama" for the past 5 years, especially the last week being in the palliative care unit.
A Celebration of Life will take place in Oak Haven in the summer of 2025 tba.
