CARROTHERS, MURIEL - At the Charlotte County Hospital, on Friday, September 20th, 2024, aged 95 years; Muriel Dorothy Rose Carrothers of St. Andrews, NB, wife of the late John Carrothers.

Born in Victoria, BC, she was the daughter of the late Raymond Jones and Amy O’Shaughnessy. Muriel trained as an educator in Victoria and began her career in Port Alberni, BC. While there, she and two friends applied to teach in England and traveled by Dongadike freighter from Nanaimo, BC, through the Panama Canal to the UK. In addition to teaching, they traveled extensively throughout Europe. On her return to Canada, she worked in Nanaimo at the Princess Anne Elementary School and the John Barsby Junior Secondary where she taught teens with special learning needs.

She met her future husband, John, while square dancing one night in Nanaimo and married him a year later in 1960. They moved to St. Andrews, NB in 1962, driving with their infant son across the continent with the back seat of the car replaced with a crib. She loved being a full-time mother to three boys before rejoining the paid workforce in her fifties as the Assistant to the Curator at the Ross Memorial Museum in St. Andrews, NB, retiring in 1994.

She was an active volunteer for numerous worthy causes throughout her life and was blessed with a green thumb and a particular affinity for orchids of all types.

Surviving are her sons, Scott of Calgary, AB, and Andrew (Sophia) of Charlottetown, PE, daughter-in-law Rosalie of Victoria, BC, grandchildren Erin (Preston), Joel, Sarah (Evelyn), Tristan, Gabrielle, and Xander, great-grandson Torin, brother Dennis (Sheila) of Markham, ON, sister Wendy (David) of Victoria, BC, and brother-in-law Gerry of Fonthill, ON.  Muriel was predeceased by her son Graham and daughter-in-law Wendy.
