Obituary of Leah Elizabeth Mabey

Mabey, Betty – Was born on February 11, 1930, to Ethel and Charles Flewelling in Saint John, NB. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Rev. Francis B. Mabey and her son Peter Mabey, along with siblings Helen (Winfield) Fowler, Jean (Eric) Garland, Dorothy (Don) Archer and George Flewelling .

    Betty got her elementary and high school education in Saint John and vocational training at the Saint John Vocational School. She worked as a hairdresser for a few years; then in the offices of Thorne’s Hardware and Commercial Equipment.

    She married Rev. Francis B. Mabey, Jr. on September 15th, 1951 and had four children, Peter, Mark, Paul and Deborah.

    Francis and Betty felt the call of the Lord to go into full time ministry and served in the field of churches of Berry Mills, Steeves Mtn. and the Gorge, then to Wilson’s Beach Baptist Church on Campobello Island where they also co – directed Edith Lank Memorial  Camp for many years and then to the Disciples of Christ Church in Lubec, Maine.

     Betty was a secretary at the Campobello Island Consolidated School for 24 years.

Following the death of Francis, Betty joined the North Road Baptist Church on Campobello.

    She leaves to mourn her children, Mark (Michele), Paul (Wendy), Debbie (Larry) Stuart, daughter in law Valerie Mabey, grandchildren Melissa(Lewis) their children Caleb and Lucas, Matthew (Amanda) and their children Nathaniel and Andrew, Benjamin (Sandy) and their children Mason and Xander, Sasha and daughter Leah, Ashlee and daughter Rylee, Nathaniel (Jill) and their sons Owen & Jacob, Jordan(Leslie) and their children Mylo and Aspen, her very close sister in law Evlyn Flewelling and many nieces, nephews and cousins, as well as all of the dear Mabey relatives.

       By Betty’s request there will be no visitation. Cremation will take place. A private family graveside memorial service will be held later in the summer.
