Obituary of John P. Miller

MILLER, JOHN P. (JACK) – Jack Miller, of Elmsville, NB, husband of the late Frances Marion (Armstrong) Miller, passed away on January 26, 2018. Born on May 16, 1924 in Saint John, Jack was the eldest son of the late James Leonard Miller and Eva Marjorie (Pitt) Miller. Jack was raised on the Kingston Peninsula and was involved in the construction and woodworking business from an early age. He worked at Saint John shipbuilding for 30 years where he was Foreman in the Carpenter’s and Joiners Shop and, later, worked in the Estimating and Planning Department. Jack retired in 1989 and he and Frances moved permanently to their country home in Elmsville, Charlotte County, NB, where they enjoyed many happy years in the garden, hunting, fishing, working in his beloved carpenter shop and spending time with their many friends. They loved to travel and couldn’t wait to get to their winter home in Florida in time for New Year’s celebrations. In his later years, Jack enjoyed living at Lonicera Hall in St. Stephen. Jack was a veteran, having served in the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #69, Christ Church, Elmsville. Jack served on the Cemetery Committee for Elmsville Historic Cemetery. He was also a member of the Independent Order of Foresters, and a former member of Carpenters and Joiners of America Local 840. Jack is survived by his brother Robert W. (Bob) Miller of Kingston Peninsula as well as his nieces and nephews, Patsy (Doug) McKinney of Rothesay, Jim (Sheila) Miller of Elmsville, Stephen (Lori) Miller of Saint John, Bill (Karla) Miller of Kingston Peninsula, Mary Mallory of Saint John, Leonard (Janet) Miller of Saint John, Della (Len) Day of Elmsville, Ann (Floyd) Hoben of Saint John and Edgar Johnston of St. Andrews. In addition to his wife Frances, Jack was predeceased by his brother L. Alan Miller and wife Roberta and his sister-in-law Mildred Justason and husband Lewis. A Memorial Service will be held at Humphrey’s Funeral Home Chapel, 20 Marks Street, St. Stephen, NB on Thursday, February 1st, 2018 at 2:00 pm) followed by a reception. Interment will take place in Elmsville Historic Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Christ Church, Elmsville, Elmsville Historic Cemetery, Lonicera Hall or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
