Obituary of Sissy Newman

NEWMAN, Margie (Sissy)- Passed peacefully May 19, 2024 at her home on Campobello Island surrounded by her family and close friends.  Margie Ernestine (Jackson) Newman, lovingly known as “Sissy“ , wife of the late Vaughan  Newman.

Born in Wilson’s Beach, she was the daughter of the late William Howard Jackson and Mary Elizabeth (Mathews) Jackson. Sissy grew up on Campobello and lived her 94 years on Jackson’s Lane. She was a devoted life long member and Trustee of the Wilson’s Beach United Baptist Church and taught the nursery Sunday School class there for many years. She had a lovely singing voice which she shared as a member of the choir. She served faithfully on the board of Edith Lank Memorial Christian Camp bringing much wisdom and experience to that role. She also served with her husband Vaughan who was a Gideon for many years. While raising her family, Sissy worked at their family business , Jackson Bros. Ltd.

As busy as she was, family was very important and she made certain that time spent with each other was special . She spoiled neighborhood kids with her famous molasses cookies all through the year. How she loved to see the kids coming. They never left her presence without feeling loved and a full belly.

Sissy was a faithful Christian who loved the Lord . She lived to serve and she did it well.

Sissy is survived by her daughter Colleen Morrison and husband Martin of Cape Nedick,  Maine and her son Larry Newman of Rothesay, NB, two grandchildren, Bradley and Matthew and one step grandchild, Leanne and several great grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband Vaughan, her parents William and Mary and her brothers Keith Jackson and Donald Jackson.

The family will receive friends at the church during a time of visitation on Friday from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm.
