Obituary of Nellie V. Hooper

Hooper, Nellie Virginia

May 12, 1922 – December 02, 2023

Nellie died peacefully in the arms of her daughter Donna and her sons Daniel and Phillip on Saturday December 02, 2023, at the home of Donna and Wilf Torunski in St. Stephen NB.

Nellie, the daughter of Mabury and Celia (Cook) Russell spent her early years on Grand Manan Island and subsequently lived in Ottawa, Moncton, Edmonton, Barrie Ontario and most recently St. Stephen for 47 years.

She will always be remembered for the selfless and steadfast support and caring she gave to family and friends. She nurtured and held close faith and family throughout her life. Locally she was a strong supporter of the Union Street Baptist Church in St. Stephen.

Nellie was predeceased by her husband Milfred (1979), her sister Bernice (2009) and her brother Burton (2014). Saddened by her passing, her family will be forever guided by Nellie’s Love and wisdom. The family includes her daughter Donna (husband Wilf Torunski), her three sons Burton (wife Marilyn Fleming) Daniel (wife Barbara Kerfoot), and Phillip, four grandchildren (and partners), and seven great-grandchildren.

Much gratitude exists for the caring and loving support and assistance from the staff at Charlotte County Home Support and the Extra Mural-St. Stephen who provided Nellie and her family excellent care and compassion during her final stages of life.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM till 12:30 PM on Wednesday December 6,2023 at Humphreys Funeral Home (20 Marks Street St. Stephen NB E3L 2B2), followed by a funeral service on the same day beginning at 1:00PM. Burial at St. Stephen Rural Cemetery to follow.
