Obituary of Leon J. Martin

MARTIN LEON J. –

Peacefully at the Fundy Nursing Home in Black’s Harbour, NB; Leon Joseph Martin, husband of the late Andrea (Thompson) Martin. Born in Rogersville, NB , he is the son of the late Arthur J & Exsillina (Belliveau) Martin.

Leon worked for over 30 years as a shipper receiver with National Grocers.

Leon was a very kind and generous man, endeared and loved by so many in his community. He was so very giving of himself and so enjoyed spending time with his family for any occasion; known to his family as a loving & giving uncle as well as His community, referred to him as “ Uncle Leon”, Always a gentleman.

Leon was a loyal fan to his beloved “Habs”. (Montreal Canadians)

The family would like to express their sincerest appreciation and gratitude to members and staff of the Fundy Nursing Home; for the comfort & care that was shown to Leon during his short stay, as well as to the family. Shirley, a member of their team at the nursing home; she felt proud to be a member of such a dedicated team of professionals, who always went beyond the call of duty. Fundy Nursing Home is Charlotte County’s best kept secret, as reported by a RESIDENT of FUNDY.

Leon is survived by his sister Marie Deuville of Belle isle NB, Sister in law Pearl Carson of St. John, and several nieces and nephews. Shirley & Clifford Blanchard of Pennfield, where Leon resided for the past 12years.

Dorothy (Dot) Gullison of Dewolf, Sadie Richard of Utopia, Arthur (Gail) Richard of St.Stephen , Frank Richard Jr.(Barb) Blacks Harbour, Yvonne (Rick) Lloyd. Mushquash, Debra LaPointe of Utopia, Lori Richard of St Stephen, Tammy Muir (Mark) of Belisle, and Alex Sprague of St Stephen.

Although Leon had no grandchildren he was very lovingly thought of as a grandfather figure to his great nephew Cliff Jr. (Iliana) and his children, Alyssa and Mahdilin as their “great great uncle grandpa.”

Besides his parents and his wife, he was predeceased by his sister Sadie and brother in law Francoise Richard Sr, brother Eloie Martin, nephew Eloie Richard, niece Eloise Richard, nephew Joseph Richard, nephew Richard Deuville Jr, nephew Ed LaPointe Jr., nephew Ronnie Gullison Sr., brother in laws Richard Deuville Sr., and Gerry Carson.

By Leon’s request there will be no visitation. Cremation will take place followed by  a memorial mass of Christian burial to be celebrated at St. Stephen Catholic Church, Milltown St. Stephen, NB, on Saturday, September 9th, 2023 at 10:00 am

The interment will follow in Oak Bay Rural Cemetery.
