Russell, Blaine Gordon

June 1, 1957 - June 2, 2023

Blaine passed away peacefully at the Grand Manan hospital on June 2, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.

Blaine is survived by his wife Julie (nee Gaskill), one daughter Jerusha (Caleb) Richardson and five sons, Cody (Caitlin) Small, Sidney Joy (of St. Stephen), Casey (Courtney) Russell, Geoffrey (Twyla) Hadaway and Mackenzie (Bryanna) Russell. He is survived by two sisters, Rhonda (Chris) Hettrick and Jennifer (Anthony) Russell and by two brothers, Phillip (Rosemary) Russell and Troy (Julie) Russell. Blaine was predeceased by his sister Holly (John) Ritchie, and his parents Bernard and Deanna (Brown) Russell.

The second son of Bernard and Deanna, Blaine grew up in Woodward’s Cove where he also chose to bring up his own family. He started fishing early at age 14 and has loved the sea, boats, and fellow fishermen all his life.

Blaine dearly loved spending time with family, his kids and grandkids were his favorites. He was a faithful fan of his children and extended families’ sports endeavors and travelled near and far to support them.

Blaine loved his Lord Jesus Christ and shared his faith openly. He was an encourager and joy to many. His sense of humor was something else and he was full of fun and laughter. He certainly was one of a kind, God’s special gift to us.  He would often pour into his children’s friends and others in the community who needed and ear and advice. We are still receiving messages from folks he has generously and lovingly impacted.

We, his family, want to thank the extramural team, hospital staff and EMTs for the kind care during this season. Also, we are grateful for all those who have prayed, sent cards and messages, food, and financial support. He was overwhelmed by how much people cared and it helped greatly during this journey.

An honour celebration will be held at Immanuel Family Church on Wednesday June 7, 2023. Visitation will be held at the church from 11am to 12:30 pm followed by funeral service by 1pm. Private family committal held at Maple Grove Cemetery.

When asked where to send donations he grinned and said my pocket (lol).  But seriously we ask that donations be made to Ellel Ministries Canada, Harvest House Grand Manan, and the Lighthouse Church. Blaine chose to support these ministries til the end.

Online condolences to the family or donations can be made at www.humphreysfh.com.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care & direction of the Phillip Ells Jr. Memorial Funeral Center a service of Humphreys Funeral Home, 20 Marks Street, St. Stephen, NB E3L 2B2 (506 – 466 – 3110)
