Obituary of Carolyn Nickson

Nickson, Carolyn Margaret

76 years, passed peacefully with her family by her side on Sunday 14 May 2023 at Bobby's Hospice in Saint John NB. She joins her adoring husband of 57 years, William “Bill” Nickson, who predeceased her in 2022.

Cherished mother of Tammy Reichelt (Peter) of Saint John NB, Paul Nickson (Joanne) of Fredericton NB, and Mark Nickson (Mary) of Deline NWT. Beloved grandmother of Amanda Richard, Christina Reichelt, Alicia Takazo (Dalton), Joshua Nickson, and great grandmother of Adalyn Hann, Parker LeBlanc, Azalea Takazo, and Westlyn Takazo.

Survived by her sister Anne-Marie Butler of Cornwall PEI, and several nieces and nephews, as well as beloved cat Nacho. Predeceased by her parents Gerald and Mary Mulhern, and sister Joan Mulhern.

Carolyn was a 25-year “Military Wife”, a role which perfectly suited her remarkable ability to adapt and thrive no matter what challenges she and the family faced. Afterwards, Carolyn worked in various retail and hospitality endeavors, while always ensuring that family came first.

Her love, her sacrifice, her smile ...She left a legacy in even the smallest things.
She gave so much of herself, loving others unselfishly and unconditionally. She was a light, a beacon, a fire burning bright through the years.
She always put her own burdens on the shelf, giving her heart so freely and beautifully.

In retirement Carolyn and Bill enjoyed traveling (including an RV trip across Canada, a Caribbean cruise, and trips to Nashville and California), and spending quality time with family and friends.

Carolyn was an avid reader, loved playing card games, had a passion for baking, and evolved into a big sports fan … especially curling, golf, and the Toronto Maple Leafs and Blue Jays.

The family wishes to express their gratitude for the tremendous care and support received from Dr. Donald Acheson, extra mural care in Saint John NB, Dr. Chris O'Brien and the entire staff at Bobby's Hospice in Saint John NB, Carolyn’s cousin Donnie Hiland, and special friends Tina Enman and her family.

Cremation has taken place as per Carolyn's wishes, with no visitation. A private family service will be held at Humphrey’s Funeral Home (20 Marks St. St. Stephen NB E3LB2). If you so desire, memorial donations to a charity of your choice can be made at humphreysfh.com

You can shed tears that she is gone
Or you can smile because she has lived

You can close your eyes and pray that she will come back
Or you can open your eyes and see all that she has left

Your heart can be empty because you can’t see her
Or you can be full of the love that you shared

You can turn your back on tomorrow and live in yesterday
Or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday

You can remember her and only that she is gone
Or you can cherish her memory and let it live on

You can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn your back
Or you can do what she would want: smile, open your eyes, love and go on.
