Obituary of Hilda Ann Townes
Townes, Hilda Ann (nee Young)
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Hilda Ann Townes on Monday May 1, 2023 at Lincourt Manor after a long and courageous battle with Parkinsons, dementia, and cancer. She was 71 years old.
Born September 19, 1951 in Elmsville, NB to Horace and Freda Young, Hilda spent most of her life as a resident of St. Stephen, though she lived as far away as British Colombia for a time. She was a loving wife of over 40 years to Carson Townes. They supported each other in all their endeavors, and in every joy and sorrow life threw their way. She was mom to Jeremy (Aimee), and Jason, and no sons could ever have asked for a better one. She loved her boys with every ounce of her being and beamed with pride as they grew into men with families of their own. Hilda was especially proud to affectionately be called Grammy and Ol'ma by her two grandsons Owen, and Sawyer, whom she would always refer to as her "babes". It breaks all of our hearts knowing that these two boys won't know the love and kindness of their grandmother as they grow up.
Hilda was a living embodiment of compassion and spent her life in servitude to others. She worked in various special care homes, at people's residences, and as a dental assistant for many years. She took pride in her work and held her head high knowing that at the end of the day she had cared for others and provided for her family.
Hilda was a passionate believer in Christ and attended several churches over her lifetime. She also loved music, and it brought her great joy to share her love of gospel by singing during Sunday services, and as a member of the Valley Gospel Singers.
In addition to her husband, sons, and grandsons, Hilda is survived by her brothers Horace Jr. (Jackie), Bernard (Diane), Wesley, Timmy, and sister Ruth. She is predeceased by brothers Carl (Dianne), Ross, and sister Peggy. Hilda will be sorely missed by her many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was the glue in her large family that helped bind everyone together. She held no ill wills and loved and appreciated everyone, friend or family, they were all important to her.
The family would like to thank the staff at Lincourt Manor for their care and compassion shown towards Hilda. We lost two years with her due to Covid restrictions, but mom was loved and cared for the entire time she was a resident and that brought us a great deal of comfort.
Cremation has taken place; the family welcomes you to attend a memorial service in Hilda's honour on Saturday May 6, 2022 at 2 PM at Gateway Cathedral (18 West St, St Stephen, NB E3L 3C2).
