Obituary of Hugh Bernard Bartlett

The family of the late Hugh Bartlett announces his passing at the Saint John Regional Hospital on February 6, 2023.  Survived by his wife, Karen (Williams) Bartlett, daughter, Tiffany (Holly), Truro, daughter-in-law Andrea and granddaughter Nora, Miramichi, his siblings Chris (Ross) Lister, Robert (Bessie) Bartlett, Francie (Lance) Howard, a special cousin Paul Delaney and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Predeceased by his parents Lawrence and Marion (Dorcas) Bartlett, his son Graham, and his wife’s parents Lewis and Kaye Williams.

Along with his father, Hugh operated the Bartlett’s Mills Sawmill and was proud to be the 7th generation of mill operators.  In 1984 they formed Goldsmith Lumber, a new cedar mill.  He designed and manufactured all the machinery to enhance the mill to its fullest potential.

Hugh’s machine shop was a place for his curiosity to be developed and many challenging inventions.   Hughie valued his friendships formed there and was always willing to lend a helping hand.  His camp was also a favorite gathering place where he felt at home with nature.

Visitation will be held at the Wesley United Church on Thursday, February 9, from 7-9pm. The funeral will be held on Friday, February 10 at 2pm, followed by a reception.   Memorial donations may be made to the school breakfast program at VMES and Sir James Dunn Academy, Kiwanis club, and Shiretown Community Outreach Services.

The family wishes to thank St. George Extra Mural staff, Dr. J. Wildish, and staff of Saint John Regional 4B South.

Burial at a later date at St. John the Baptist Cemetery in Chamcook.

Care has be entrusted to Humphreys Funeral Home (20 Marks St. St. Stephen NB E3L 2B2)  Online condolences to the family or donations can be made at www.humphreysfh.com
