Jean passed peacefully, Thursday Dec. 29 at Charlotte County Hospital, wife of the late Gordon Christie of St. Stephen, married for 27 years, followed by and predeceased by Bernard Johnson for 21 years.
Family had recently gathered following Jean’s hospitalization. She had been living in Lonicera Hall for the last few years.
Jean and Gordon had three children - predeceased by her son Eugene “Crunch” Christie, survived by her son Jeff Christie (Joyce) of Fredericton, daughter Elaine McGowan (Patrick) of St. Stephen and step daughter Carrie Dow (Rod) of St. Stephen.
She will be missed by grandchildren Sara, Heather, Lisa, Matthew, Alanda, Mike and 10 great grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by her parents Wallace and Louise Hyslop of Tower Hill and her sisters Miriam Murray, Eva MacLeod, Christine (Chrissie) Wilson, and Alice(Allie) Raymont.
Jean was a dedicated educator in St. Stephen for her entire career beginning in Blackland (Old Ridge).
She spent her summers in the blueberry fields on Tower Hill, just down the road from the farm where she grew up.
Jean was very active in the Kirk McColl United Church and was a spiritually strong woman as well as a member of the UCW, Rebekah Lodge, the IODE, among many others.
Jean leaves a legacy of educating countless students, raising a strong, beautiful family with much love and many laughs. Jean Christie marks the end of an era for her family as she is the last of the Hyslop girls to leave us. We will continue to celebrate her life in our memories, our stories and our hearts.
Thanks to all the doctors, nurses and caregivers at Lonicera and Charlotte County Hospital.
