Nellie Elizabeth Matthews passed away unexpectedly at the Down East Community Hospital in Machias, Maine on Saturday, October 8th, 2022; Nellie was born on November 5th, 1939 in Eastport, Maine U.S.A. She is the Daughter of the late Ashton and Lenora (Townsend) Phinney.

Nellie lived her life as the wife of a fisherman, and enjoyed being at home and raising her children on Campobello Island. She will be remembered fondly as always having such a sweet tooth and regularly being seen wearing her favorite color, Burgundy.  She loved a warm cup of tea and watching soap operas. Nellie adored spending time with her family and nothing brought her greater joy than watching her grandchildren and great grandchildren grow and showering them with her love in many ways.

She is survived by her two sons, LeRoy of Campobello, NB and Barry and his wife Susan of Hampden, ME, USA, three grandchildren Benjamin (Kimberly), Samantha, and Sarah, great granddaughter Marley and great grandson Winston. Her sister-in-law Ruth Kelsey  of Campobello, NB. Her two nieces Candi and Sandra Phinney and nephew John Phinney and many other great nieces and nephews, and extended family.
