Obituary of Ivan A. Corey
Ivan Alfred Corey July 6th 1936-Oct 30th 2014 Ivan Corey passed quietly away on October 30th with his wife Beverly and his son Scott by his side. He had been dealing with his steadily declining health for the past year with patience and fortitude, and the last 3 weeks was spent under the caring and professional staff at the Campobello Nursing Home. Ivan was born on Campobello to Ivan Grant Corey and Elsie Marie Daggett, the youngest of four children. He was predeceased by his brother Mel and sister Mina and is survived by a sister Laila of Fredricton, and brother Charles(Lillian)of North Road,Campobello. He was one half of a devoted couple, having married Beverly Anne Porter on November 11th, 1961. They had one son, Scott Corey, of Dennysville Maine, and 3 grandchildren, Joslyn Anne Corey, Ivan Henry Corey, and Brianne Lee Corey, all 3 of whom had provided much joy over the last 20 years. He attended schools on Campobello and graduated from High School in 1956. He taught at St. George and Campobello before going back to school for his BA from UMM Machais. He started teaching in Calais while advancing his education, eventually earning a masters in Administration and Certificate of Advanced of Studies. He became superintendent of Union 107 for a few years before moving on to take the job of superintendent for SAD 77 which he stayed at until his retirement. He had a knack for numbers, dates and people. As well as a love of literature (favorites were Ogden Nash, Robert Service, and Edna St. Vincent Millay. He loved old cars, boxing, politics (following not arguing) and baseball, eventually making the pilgrimage to Cooperstown. After retirement he moved back to Campobello and entered into the salmon farming business. He also volunteered to be the treasurer for the Campobello Library and the Light House committee, as well as helping out tutoring some students at Campobello consolidated school. He was a quiet, thoughtful man with an amazing memory, blessed with good friends and loving family. Those friends and family would say the same, blessed. He is deeply loved, and will be sorely missed. Cremation has taken place. A graveside service will take place at a later date at St. Anne's Cemetery , Welshpool, NB with time & date to be announced.
