Obituary of Walter Frederick Jones
JONES, WALTER F. – At the Charlotte County Hospital on Friday, February 14th, 2014; Walter “Wally” Frederick Jones, husband of Carol (Bebeau) Jones of St. Andrews, NB. Born in Milltown, NB he was the son of the late Thomas & Margaret Jones. Wally grew up in Milltown; he was one of ten children. He joined the Navy in 1946 and transferred to the army a few years later, and remained in the military service for over 23 years. Walter was a veteran of the Korean War. He served overseas with the First Battallion, Royal Canadian Regiment, for almost two years, serving on the front lines,with the rank of Sgt.. He coped with many casualties of war and lost a lot of friends during the war, and was wounded himself in the Korean War. Upon retirement from the Canadian military he was employed by the Huntsman Marine Science Centre , and later with Canada Border Services Agency. He was posted with St Stephen - Milltown and was later transferred to St. Andrews where he worked in areas such as Grand Manan, Campobello, and Deer Island. He retired from the Federal government after 37 years of service. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Passamaquoddy Branch # 8 serving in many different capacities. He also volunteered at the Vincent Massey Elementary School reading to children for many years, and received an Early Childhood Literacy Award from the Lieutenant Governor of New Brunswick. Surviving in addition to his wife Carol are his son Shawn Jones (Bev McFarlane) of St. Andrews, NB, 5 daughters Lorie Cummings (Wayne) of Halifax, NS, Nancy Welles (Clayton) of St. Andrews, NB, Carolann Brander(Scott) of Moncton, NB, Evelyn Morrison (Rob) and Dawn Maskill (Shawn) all of Fredericton, NB, 12 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, 2 sisters Louise Kelley of Calais, ME, and Eleanor Taylor (Bill) of Ontario, several nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Tuesday, February, 18th, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Andrews Catholic Church. The mass was celebrated by Rev. Fr. Paul Doucet. The presentation of the gifts were grandchildren Kim Welles and Emma Morrison. The church choir were accompanied by organist Carol Adamovich. Scriptures were read by Lola Boyles and Clayton Welles. Active pallbearers were grandsons John Brander, Josh Brander, sons in law Scott Brander, Clayton Welles, Rob Morrison and Wayne Cummings. Honour Guard was offered by 2 members of Canada Border Services Agency Shelly Donahue and Bill Giddens. A special tribute to a Veteran was conducted members of the Royal Canadian Legion Passamaquoddy Branch # 8 conducted by Rev. Canon John Matheson. Trumpeter was Lawrence White. A reception followed at the Canadian Legion Branch #8 in St. Andrews, NB. The interment will take place at a later date in the spring in St. Andrews Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations to the Arthritis Society or to the Charlotte County Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family.
