Obituary of Dorothy Rae Wood

At the Passamaquoddy Lodge in St. Andrews, NB, on February 2nd, 2012, Dorothy 101, known to all who knew her as Dubbie, was born in River Hebert, Nova Scotia on the 21st of August, 1910, the third of four daughters to William and Janie Clare Landels. Her three sisters, Marjorie, Muriel and Gladys (Honey) predeceased her. Her husband, Donovan Arthur Wood, passed away January 25, 1985 and her son Merrill Leisk died June 22, 1973. She is survived by a daughter, Sharon Wood Dauphinee (Dale) and a son Don (Jean), four grandchildren, Brent, Trevor, Derek and Brianne as well as one great-grandson, Logan. As a young woman, Dubbie attended Business College in Moncton, New Brunswick and then became a teller at the Bank of Nova Scotia in River Hebert. One of her weekly tasks was to distribute cash carried in her ‘knap-sac’ to business customers of the Bank! She rode her bicycle to carry out this responsibility! In her youth she was a superb tennis player and was ‘singles’ Club Champion in Halifax. After moving to St. Andrews in her middle years she learned to play a very respectable game of golf (great swing) and also became an enthusiastic curler. Since 2005, Dubbie has been a resident of Passamaquoddy Lodge in St. Andrews, New Brunswick. The family wishes to extend sincere thanks to all the personnel there for the attention and excellent care provided during these last years. A funeral will be decided on at a later date. Friends are welcomed to attend a graveside service to be held at St. Andrews Rural Cemetery, St. Andrews, NB on Saturday, May 19th, 2012 at 2:00 pm.
