Obituary of Mary G. Fitzgerald
FITZGERALD, MARY G. … 1934-2016; surrounded by her family, Mary Grace (Matthews) Fitzgerald passed away on April 9th, 2016 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. A native of Campobello, Mary was the daughter of the late Nehemiah and Hilda (Townsend) Matthews. To Mary, family was everything and she always put their needs before her own. She was a very generous and thoughtful person, either attending or sending gifts to nearly every wedding, bridal shower, or baby shower that was held on Campobello. She never forgot a single family birthday or holiday, sending out cards or gifts well in advance to make sure they arrived on time. Mary’s favorite place was Mill Cove and she spent many a day walking the beach with her children and grandchildren. She also had a soft heart for the feral cats that lived in the woods near her home. She fed them, named each one, and knew which litter of kittens belonged to which mother and father. Mary was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Garth Fitzgerald, and a daughter, Mary Katherine. She is survived by her daughter, Valerie Fitzgerald, and son, Mark Fitzgerald, both of Campobello; grandchildren, Tara (Tim) Tabbutt of Columbia, ME, Daphne (Jonathan Wallace) Savage of Lubec, ME, Alisha (Dustin) Mundy of Stedman, NC; great-grandchildren, Dayna, Robert, Holly, and Raylan; brother Miner (Ruth) Matthews and sister, Harriett Parker; niece and nephew Amy & Jody Matthews, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews by marriage, cousins, and friends. By Mary’s request there will be no visitation. There will be a graveside service for close friends and family on April 16th at 12:00 pm (Atlantic) at the Wilson’s Beach Community Cemetery, Head Harbour Rd. Pastor Randy Harris will officiate. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Wilson’s Beach Community Cemetery Fund would be appreciated by the family. Online condolences to the family or donations can be made at www.humphreysfh.com Arrangements have been entrusted to the care & direction of Humphreys Funeral Home, 20 Marks St., St. Stephen, NB E3L 2Bs (506-466-3110).
