Obituary of Evelyn M. Hatt
Evelyn Mae Hatt At the Charlotte County Hospital in St. Stephen, N.B, on May 26th, 2019, Mrs. Evelyn Mae (Dorey) Hatt, wife of Frederick (Ted) Hatt, of St. Andrews, NB, passed peacefully, surrounded by her husband and daughters. Born on April 28th, 1937, in Aylesford, Nova Scotia, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Ruth (Murphy) Dorey. A loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and good friend, she is survived by two daughters; Angela Hatt of Slave Lake Alberta, Selina Hatt (Maurice and Molly Basque) of St. Andrews, NB, her three grandchildren; Robert Arsenault (Kathleen Ryan) of Calgary, AB; Sarah Arsenault (Ben Smith) of Kamloops, B.; Derek Lee (Samantha Benson) of Consort, AB; great-grandchildren Damian Lee and Michael Arsenault. Evelyn also leaves behind her siblings George (Barbara) Dorey of Eureka, California, and Deanna Morrell of Saint John, NB, her sister-in-law Susan Stewart (Wade), as well as her beloved nieces and nephews and cousins. Evelyn was predeceased by her son, Gordon Frederick Hatt. Evelyn was well known in the town of St. Andrews for her gifts of short-bread cookies that she gifted during the Christmas season, and the socks she knit with love for family and friends. Evelyn took great care in her gift giving; not only at Christmas, but throughout the year, and will be remembered fondly for her generous spirit. At one time she was an avid curler in both Blacks Harbour, and later, at the Heather Curling Club in St. Andrews. Evelyn was the creator of many amazing costumes for her children (and often their friends); creator of many wedding and birthday cakes, and a talented home maker (long before Martha Stewart ever arrived on the scene). She will be remembered for her amazing service at Hatt’s Sea Breeze Restaurant, The China Chest, Gumushel's Tartan Shop, and most recently Kit & Kaboodle. The family would like to thank the doctor’s and nurses of the Saint John Regional Hospital; the Charlotte County Hospital, and the wonderful staff of Extra-Mural for their exceptional and compassionate care. The family is also extremely grateful for the kindness and compassion of their friends, neighbours and the community during Evelyn’s illness. A memorial service in celebration of Evelyn’s life will be held on Friday, May 31st, 2019 at 3:00 pm at All Saints Anglican Church, 77 King Street, St. Andrews, NB. A reception will immediately follow in the parish hall. Archdeacon John Matheson officiating. In lieu of flowers donations to the Charlotte County Cancer Society or to the Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children would be appreciated by the family.
