Mildred Parker

Obituary of Mildred Bernice Parker

Mildred Bernice (Shaw) Parker peacefully went to be with her Lord and Saviour on Sunday March 8, 2026 at home surrounded by her children after a brave battle with cancer.

Millie was born in Scot’s Bay, NS on February 9, 1942 to Morley & Elva (Redden) Shaw. She was raised on her family’s farm and attended KBCA. At the age of 18, she went to Moncton NB where she completed Beauty School and opened her own salon in her hometown.

In 1961 at her families church she met the love of her life, MCpl Vernon Dale Parker from Campobello who was serving in the Canadian Air Force. They were married the following year and began their story in Comox, BC. It was there that the had three children and Millie became a dedicated stay at home Mom who taught herself how to bake and cook by visiting the library or tearing recipes out of magazines.

The family relocated to Trenton, ON in 1966 until their final station in Greenwood, NS in 1976. It was there that Vernie decided to retire from the Air Force and their last child was born. The family settled roots on Campobello Island, NB in 1979.

As her children grew Millie reentered the workforce in the local fish factories until her passion for cooking and baking took her down a new career path, working at local restaurants where she became known best for her delicious pies.

Additionally, she worked for the local RCMP detachment serving as a custodian for 35 Years.

In her lifetime she served on many church committees, teaching at Awana, Sunday school and serving her Lord and Saviour. Millie’s priorities in life focused on loving her family and friends to the fullest.

She lived her life without complaint and met every new challenge with a smile and sense of adventure. Millie was mischievous and had a wonderful sense of humour. She was an avid reader, and was most commonly found in her kitchen cooking for her family. Our mom was a such a generous, beautiful woman whom we will dearly miss.

Millie is survived by her son, Colin Parker of Campobello, her daughters Theresa (Mike) Seavey of Cherryfield ME, Alana Parker of Campobello and Vania Parker of Campobello. In addition is her brother Rev. Morley (Joy) Shaw of New Glasgow NS, and her sisters Dorothy Coleman and Blanche (Bruce) Barron of Melvern Square, NS as well as her ten grandchildren, Allison, Steven, Erick, Roger Lee, Alisha, Selena, Shayne, Kaleb M., Kendra and Kaleb A.   She was predeceased by her husband and love of 50 years, Vernon Parker.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the Extra Mural Program, especially her nurses Katie and Lynne. We would also like to recognize her daughter, Alana as well who provided dedicated selfless care and support to our dear mother the last year and a half of her life.
