Obituary of Lois Colleen Benson

Benson, Lois

With heavy hearts, the family of Lois Colleen Benson announces her peaceful passing on January 28, 2026, at the Grand Manan Nursing Home.

Lois was born on September 9, 1936, to Robert (Bob) Dean and Dorothy Dean (Beal). She grew up with strong family roots that stayed with her throughout her life.

Lois met Allison, the love of her life, and together they built their family and their home in North Head. Her home was truly her castle — a place of comfort, pride, and welcome — and she took great joy in caring for it and those she loved. Mom especially enjoyed views of the water, decorating her home, and collecting antiques. She loved sharing details of history, spending time reading, and, in healthier years, travelling with Dad. Above all else, she cherished visits with her family.

She leaves behind her daughters, who were the centre of her world: Linda Hannan of St. Stephen; Charmaine (Dwight) Taylor of Grand Manan; Amy (Bruce) Stewart of Truro; Annette Benson (Herbie Gaskill) of Grand Manan; and Marci (Jim) Higgins of St. Stephen. She will be deeply missed by her nine grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, as well as her many nieces and nephews, and her special nephew, Kenny Dean.

Lois was predeceased by her parents; her beloved husband, Allison, whom she missed dearly every day after his passing; and her only brother, Bud.

A private service will be held at the Phillips Ells Jr. Memorial Funeral Centre at a later date.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff of the Grand Manan Nursing Home for the compassion, dignity, and kindness shown to our mother during her final months. Your care brought comfort not only to her, but to all of us.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care & direction of the Phillips Ells Jr. Memorial Funeral Centre, a service of Humphreys Funeral Home, 20 Marks Street, St. Stephen, NB E3L 2B2 (506 – 466 – 3110)
