Obituary of Robert Layton Linton

Passed peacefully at the Grand Manan Nursing Home, on Thursday, January 22nd, 2026. Born on Grand Manan, NB, he was the son of the late Reginald & Agnes (Filmore) Linton.

Robert served as a veteran with the Royal Canadian Air Force, as an aviation communications mechanic. He was stationed in Ottawa and served in France & Germany. Leaving the military, he moved back to Grand Manan. He was enthusiastic about working with his brothers and they began herring seining and lobster fishing. Together they had boats known as the Hugh & Carol, Miss WEB (named after the wives Wanda, Eleanor, and Beryl), the FBI, Miss Brenda, and the 7L’s (representing the seven siblings), among other small lobster boats. The close-knit family worked together, employing children and spouses, creating a legacy of laughter and camaraderie.

Robert loved his community. He was recognized as a lifetime member of the Grand Manan Royal Canadian Legion and was a founding member of the Grand Manan Curling Club.

Robert is survived by his wife Jacqueline Rose (Monroe) Linton, daughter Tammy Linton (Gary Beek) of Moncton, NB, son Michael (Andrea) of Grand Manan, NB, a very special niece Michelle Cronk (Jeff Cronk) of Rothesay, NB, grandchildren Kayla, Drew, Leon, Brittney (Jesse Lidster) step children Stephanie Little (Wayne), Krista Zwicker (Kurt) step grandchildren Tracy & Brent (Deanna), Alyssa, step great grandchild Harlen, many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Robert was predeceased by his first wife Eleanor Maureen (Fagan) Linton and his son Thomas Drake, sister Bertha, brothers Richard, Elson, sisters Madeleine, Audrey and brother Arnold. Robert was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

By Robert’s request cremation will take place, followed by a celebration of life to be held on Saturday January 31st, 2026 at 1:00 pm at the Lighthouse Church. A time of visitation and fellowship will continue following the initial tribute. A private interment will take place later in the spring.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to nurses Sally Ingersoll, Jaclyn Munro and all the wonderful staff at the Grand Manan Nursing Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Ruston Gibson’s care at the IWK would be greatly appreciated. Direct donations can made by e-transfer to his mother, Michaela Linton, at mbl.1995@hotmail.com. Online condolences to the family or donations can be made at www.humphreysfh.com
