Leavitt, Madeline Julia (Nee Gayton)

Passed peacefully surrounded by family on Monday, January 19, 2026, at Lincourt Manor in St. Stephen NB. Born in St. Stephen she was the daughter of the late Herbert & Lottie (Richard) Gayton.

She is survived by her spouse of 70 years Hazen Leavitt, Children; Marlene Duplessis (Frank), Brian Leavitt (Loretta), Wayne Leavitt (Ree), Dale Leavitt (Crystal), Lisa McAllen (Randy), grandchildren; Tammy (Kenny), Natasha (Andrew), Stephanie (Jeff), Jeremy (Shanon) Tiffanie (Chuck), Lauren, Jaime, Craig (Iesha), Alyssa (Jerad), Nathan (Kristen), Hilary (Matt), 13 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren, sister-in-law Maureen Gayton and special friend Kim Heustis.

In addition to her parents Madeline was predeceased by her brothers Eddie and Jim (Late Mary) Gayton.

Madeline was a devoted employee of Ganong’s for many years, a role she took immense pride in. It was far more than just a job to her; it was a social outlet. As the matriarch of her large family, Madeline was the glue that held everyone together. For years, she hosted a standing, no invitation needed supper at her home, often welcoming 20 or more people around her table. She loved playing games, especially when a little gambling was involved, and she had a passion for shopping, beginning her Christmas shopping promptly on December 26. Madeline also loved to travel, exploring both the United States and Canada, with a memorable road trip to Mexico standing out as a highlight. Her sense of humour was unmistakable, often revealed when she’d insist, she wasn’t a drinker—while holding a full glass of wine. Madeline’s strength, resilience, sweet tooth, and infectious spirit will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Cremation has taken place a time of visitation will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2026, from 12-2 PM at the Kirk McColl United Church (70 King St, St Stephen, NB E3L 2M6) followed immediately by a memorial funeral at 2 PM.
