Obituary of Arthur David Breton
Breton, Arthur David – age 85 of Campobello Island, passed peacefully on November 11, 2025. Born on June 28, 1940, in Salaberry-De-Valleyfield, QC, he was the son of the late Edmond Sr. and Eva (Chevarie) Breton.
Arthur enjoyed a diverse career. He spent time in the logging industry alongside his family in Campobello, where they cut a road that became locally known as Frenchmen Road. He was a forklift operator at the Caterpillar plant in Pointe-Claire, QC – a role made possible by a certificate he earned at just 17 years old. Additionally, he spent several years working on the water as a fisherman. He worked as a truck driver for multiple companies, concluding his career in that field with Newman’s Trucking.
Arthur is survived by his son Robert (Sonya) Breton of Yarmouth, NS; grandchildren Maguire and Saige Breton; stepchildren Medford Fitzgerald of Campobello, NB, Sherry (Andre) Mallette of Gesgapegiag, QC, Dwayne (Madonna) Fitzgerald of Campobello, NB, Jennifer London of Hampton, NB; grandchildren Monica, Raymond, Melinda, Amanda, Nathan, Zona, Sheila, Naomi, Mallory; great-grandchildren Desiree, Gage, Ethan, Aidyn, Makenna, Rylee, Jordyn, Allie, Emmy, Harper, Brynn, Kyle, Krysten, Logan, Matty, Noah, Morgan, Landon, Peyton, Delaney, Jaylynn, JJ, Luna, Claire, Bryson, Matthew; great-great-grandchildren Marlee, Claire, Adalynn, Gabriel, Malcolm, Cole, Alice, Lincoln; godson Mitchell. Also survived by Kathy Breton, with whom he shared a special bond. Arthur is predeceased by his parents, his siblings Edmond Breton, Dora Fleury, Noella Breton, Anita Freeston, Marie-Jeanne Cadieux, Rita Breton; stepdaughter Carlynne Williams.
Arthur is also predeceased by his loving wife, Catherine (Matthews) Breton. After a chance meeting at the local cannery, the pair went on to spend more than 40 years together. They cherished time spent with their family, especially moments with their grandchildren. It brings comfort to all who loved them to know that Arthur and Catherine are now reunited.
Arthur will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, humour, gift of storytelling, and above all, his love for his family. He was always ready for the camera, whether in front of it or behind it, and if Chinese food was on the menu, he was already there. Arthur was a member of Wilson’s Beach United Pentecostal Church for many years.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Campobello Lodge for the wonderful care they provided Arthur during his time there.
By Arthur’s request, cremation will take place. Family and friends are welcome to attend a graveside service to be held at 2:00 pm on November 21st, at Wilson’s Beach Community Cemetery, with Pastor Andrew Savage officiating.
A reception will follow at the Wilson’s Beach Pentecostal Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Arthur’s memory may be made to Diabetes Canada.
