Obituary of James Roland Mitchell

James Roland Mitchell “Big Jim”

James Roland Mitchell, husband of Christina Mae Mitchell (Tinker), passed away peacefully Sunday November 9th, 2025 at Campobello Lodge, surrounded by his loved ones. Jimmie fished for a living and lived to fish. He passed in true fisherman fashion, between setting traps and the first haul on dump day. Jimmie was born on November 3rd, 1941 at Ada Maloney’s in Lubec, Maine to Richard and Christine “Tena” (Conley) Mitchell of Mill Cove, Wilson’s Beach, Campobello.

His family was the pride of his life. Solid and dependable Jimmie dedicated his life to helping take care of them. He loved the outdoors, bird watching, hunting and hiking. But his favourite pastime was travelling to Biafrica for an exciting adventure with his children when they were young and live trapping rabbits to show his grand & great-grandchildren. Jimmie, lovingly known as Papa by many, was happiest when his kitchen table was full and his coffee was fresh, he loved a good yarn - just as any true fisherman. Although he will be missed beyond words, it is comforting to know he has reunited with Christina, the love of his life.

His passion was fishing, first with his father and brothers then later with his son and grandson. He inspired not only his son, but also his grandson and his great-grandsons (Meriner & Greyson) to have the same appreciation for the ocean.

Jimmie is survived by one sister, Evelyn Huntley, his 3 children, Kathleen Mitchell, Theresa (Dana) Matthews, James Allan (Barbie) Mitchell, his grandchildren, Kristy (Jeremy), Jessica (Jeffrey), Jamie (Breanna), Kacie (Matt), Amy (Cohan), and great-grandchildren, Meriner, Madelynn, Greyson, Harmon, Alonzo, Alden, Ruxton-James, Wrenley, Rowan, Weston, and Cohan-James, due January 8th, 2026.

Jimmie was predeceased by his beloved wife Christina, his parents Richard & Tena, brothers Grayson & Marvin and sisters Marion, Annie & Lorna.

The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to special nieces Violet, Amber, Ella & Layla, Dr. Kay, floor 2 staff at Charlotte County Hospital and the staff at Campobello Lodge nursing home.
