WIEBE, CAROL ANNE –
Peacefully on Monday, August 4th, 2025, at Bobby’s Hospice in Saint John, NB, Carol Anne (Janick) Wiebe, wife of Tom Wiebe of St. Stephen, NB, left for heaven holding her oldest daughter’s hand.
Born in Carmen, MB, and raised on a family farm near Roland, MB, she is the youngest child of Edith Jean (Wood) Janick of Miami, Manitoba and the late Harry George Janick. Carol Anne's goofy side was evident from an early age, and her creativity and sense of fun made her grit look effortless. Her enthusiasm was infectious.
Carol Anne believed that if you could dream it, you could do it. As a young recreation director in the small town of Manitou, MB, she initiated the preservation and restoration of a now beautiful historic Opera House, which she then filled with shows featuring adored Canadian artists, including her favourite children’s entertainers, Fred Penner and Al Simmons.
It was playing volleyball in Manitou where she met the love of her life, Tom Wiebe, whom she married in 1986. After their children were born, she dedicated herself to homeschooling them, instilling in them her lifelong love of learning, her enjoyment of the creative arts, and her faithfully lived Christian values.
During this time, she joined Oak Valley Productions, a Christian community theatre company, with which she co-founded an annual outdoor Passion Play in the Pembina Valley. Anyone who met Carol Anne knew she was never too busy for a laugh, and the characters she brought to the stage in Valentine Dinner Theatre shows were always uproarious.
Carol Anne’s love for Jesus led her to spend many years pouring her heart into building community for youth, whether this meant writing and directing multidisciplinary Children’s Church lessons and performances, or leading Youth Group at home and on trips.
As an entrepreneur, this thread continued, as she offered first jobs and mentorship to teens at “Tall Tom’s,” the small business she ran with her husband in the last decade of her life, which allowed them both to meet and serve many people in their community at farmer’s markets across the province of New Brunswick.
Her passion for youth and her love of music were threads often wound together throughout Carol Anne’s life. With the help of her teenage son and his friends, she started a Coffee House venue in St. Stephen for all ages and all levels of musical talent to perform. And recently she took part in bringing a Sistema Youth Orchestra education center to St. Stephen.
Carol Anne was a creative force who brought joy to the communities she wholeheartedly embraced over the years of her life. She would say that if she knew anything, she knew that Jesus loves us all more than we can imagine. She embodied the forgiveness and grace of her saviour, treating everyone she met with dignity.
She leaves behind to miss her dearly her beloved husband, Tom, and their three children, Kaitlin, Chloe, and Hayden (wife Moriah Petch). Her joy also lives on through her granddaughter; Maggie Jean, who was her delight, her mother; Jean Janick, her older siblings; Bob, Brian, and Marg (Janick-Grayston), as well as her many sisters and brother-in-laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
August 7th, a private family graveside memorial took place at St. Stephen Rural Cemetery.
A celebration of Carol Anne’s life will be held at 2:00 pm on August 24th, at St. Croix Church (32 Victoria Street, St. Stephen). For those unable to attend and would like to be a part of this tribute to Carol Anne, the service will be live streamed.
