Obituary of Robert Stephen Field
It is with broken hearts the family announce the passing of Robert [Bob] Stephen Field on Sunday, May 18th,2025 at the Grand Manan Hospital with his family at his side.
Born in Port Elgin N.B. August 18, 1937, he lived his early years on his family farm. After high school, Bob pursued his training as a shop teacher. This lead to a 32 year career teaching shop as well as a variety of subjects at the Grand Manan High School. He went back and completed a BSc through the University of Maine. His extracurricular contributions included coaching High School boys basketball, boys & girls rifle club and leading cadets.
Besides his contributions to the school, Bob also served his community. He was a founding member of the Grand Manan Rotary club, serving as president for a year. As a result, he was recipient of the Paul Harris award for his community work. Before the amalgamation of the Grand Manan villages, he also served as a counsellor for the Village of North Head. Bob continued to be community minded and served on the Rotary Estate Board of Trustees until last year.
As a young man he had a passion for hunting and fishing. Another passion was gardening and he planted both vegetables and flowers. He was long term member of the Grand Manan Curling Club, sharing this hobby with Sandra. They also love to dance in their younger years. Bob was best known as a skilled craftsman and could be found hours on end in his woodworking shop. Many local homes still have samples of his beautiful work.
Bob loved Jesus and quietly served the Lord by serving in various capacities at the North Head Baptist Church. Because of his faith, we grieve with hope and we know we’ll see him again one day!
Bob will be lovingly missed by his wife of nearly 65 years, Sandra and his daughters and son-in-laws, Angela & Duane Tate and Patricia & Tony Doiron and his grandchildren, Mitchell & Ashley, Matthew, Madison & Taylor, Robert & Marianela, Thomas & Douglas and the sweetest family addition, great granddaughter Rayne Patricia, as well as niece Lindsay, husband Justin and daughters Charlotte & Isla.
Bob will be welcomed into eternity by his son, Douglas, his parents Douglas and Dorothy and his sister, Wendy Green.
Please consider a memorial donation to the Charlotte County Cancer Society or any island charity of your choice.
A celebration of Bob's life will take place at the Lighthouse Church on Saturday August 2 nd, from 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm
